Generally, Istanbul is known for fine seafood, and it seems as if every citizen of the city has another favorite seafood restaurant. Which is okay, because that way you can try them all out and have a great basis for your own opinion. Up to now, this is clearly my favorite. Like a good fish restaurant, it’s right by the Bosphorus, in Arnavutköy, with a spectacular view — especially if you sit on the veranda upstairs. So be sure to get an early reservation for one of those special tables. Do we need to talk about the service? Not in a good restaurant like this one. Impeccable. Really nice, courteous, helpful, attentive. And happy to make a really good suggestion regarding the main course. I had expected a suggestion for a special fish dish — instead the waiter said we’d definitely love their special shrimps dish. And we did. Very much so. Wonderfully seasoned, deliciously prepared, a real surprise. The mezze — no surprise at all, simply delicious. Not that you have a good chance of getting any really disappointing mezze in Istanbul, but nevertheless, really tasty stuff. The only problem: My list of seafood restaurants to try out is really really long, so it will be some time before I get back to Vira Vira. I guess I’ll just have to make an exception every now and then. Great place. Go.

Vira Vira is one the many fish restaurants in the Arnavutköy area. Vira Vira offers a nice atmosphere and well served sea-food. It’s not exciting though. It’s a good fish restaurant and that’s all. It is not the most expensive fish restaurant in the area but it’s still a handfull of money Nice toilets and good waiters makes it worth a visit but don’t expect miracles.
