Upon entering the hotel, three smiling, attentive hosts quickly came out and took our very heavy bags inside. At their request, we sat in the beautiful lobby and had tea and cakes while they checked us in. They delivered our bags with a smile and we settled in to our standard double room. As in all of Istanbul, the room was smaller than I’m used to but had luxurious amenities. My mom and I shared the double bed, which was fine for us. The wardrobe contained a safe, which is important for me ever since I got robbed in Barcelona. We stayed in that room for two nights before they upgraded us to a larger room on the top floor overlooking Karakoy and Galata Tower, as we ended up staying for 7 nights. It had two double beds and we were able to put away the enormous contents of our bags, with another safe for our passports and extra dough. The location of the hotel is PERFECT. Close to the tram and public transportation, we could get all over the city. It is a very safe neighborhood and has many cafes, restaurants and shops nearby. The bustling area next to Galata Tower is a short walk away and lots of fun. Our stay could not have been more special. Everyone talks about how wonderful the staff is, but words cannot describe their kindness and warmth. Each person was pleasant, helpful and fun to be around. The hotel is right next to the Bosphorus and has expansive views from the terrace breakfast room and rooftop terrace. Ah, the Turkish breakfast. Fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, cheeses, breads, cakes, honey, jams, simit(my fave), eggs two ways, delicious olives and so much more. I liked to finish my breakfast with a cigarette and a Turkish coffee on the roof. We also stayed at a hotel near Taksim Square, which was nice but near a lot of people. Karakoy is great because the hotel is quiet but has a fun nightlife and excellent restaurants right nearby. When I come back to Istanbul, this is where you’ll find me.
