Fantastic atmosphere and delicious food. Meat, fish, steak and beer are their specialities. Some what expensive. Very friendly staff.

Great option! We really enjoyed this place — we wanted the typical Swedish meatballs dish and we definitely got that there. We enjoyed the service and the old school atmosphere. One thing that was alarming was the price point — it was a lot more expensive than the two dollar /euro sign it’s cataloged on Unilocal,so be careful with that!

Somewhat trendy dinner restaurant in Stockholms trendy district. Pelikan has some great, semi-fancy dinner options, all of which come with a some vegetables, and they also have good vegetable sides. Since green things are hard to find while traveling and eating in restaurants(especially in Sweden) this makes it a great place for dinner. Service was a bit curt, but the food, atmosphere, and space make up for it.

Food was decent, but snooty service takes it down a notch. We dined here as part of a group of six on a weekday, and after waiting for an hour due to general busy-ness, we were finally seated. As a group, we split several dishes – the rainbow trout, roasted reindeer, meatballs, asparagus appetizer, grilled lamb fillet, and boiled pork knuckle. Of all of the dishes, the lamb and the pork knuckle were my favorites, having the most flavorful meat. The reindeer was a bit gamey to me, while the meatballs were large but just lacked spice or flavor compared to other meatballs we had in the area. The potato sides that accompanied the dishes, including the mashed and gratin varieties, were quite nice though. In general, I found the dishes to be pretty hearty and tasty, although a bit on the pricier end. However, I was a bit offput by the service – when we requested tap water instead of still, the waiter muttered, «Of course,» which is rather rude, in my opinion, and we got a similar response when a member of our party had the asparagus as a dish instead of a proper entrée. It was just a startling experience given the general hospitality we received as tourists through the entirety of our trip in that part of the world. That being said, there are worse places to go for food. Just better places for service.

Good place. Thank god they got rid of the bald/black haired short bouncer. He used to be a bouncer at the dining hall, that is bouncer for eating customers … Lol! Weird someone?

Really surprised how complimentary the reviews are. We did not like this restaurant. Though we were greeted warmly by our waiter and quickly served drinks, an hour later we still did not have our entrees. After 45 minutes, I got our waiter’s attention and he snapped at me, «It’ll be there in a second!» Eek! Gone was the nice demeanor. Then another 20 minutes passed before my husband’s meatballs(good) and my dumplings(inedible) arrived. The room is cool and authentic. Our experience was not good. At all. Save yourself the trip.

Cane here for the Swedish meatballs. Everything was great! Just a bit pricey! Above average prices in Stockholm but probably good place to try once.

With so many great options in Stockholm for food, we had to remind ourselves to eat Swedish at least once. While Pelikan may have not been a perfect meal, it was a great experience. High ceiling and a hunting lodge feel, this ancient lodge(1733!) is a mammoth from a bygone era. The dishes are classically Swedish: hearty, meat + potato based, and filling. THESERVICE: We went in on a Friday night, and were able to make a reservation about 2 hours before we showed up. The main reason this place loses points was the service was pretty forgetful, and wait times for food were glacial. Had to ask for everything twice, app came about 20 minutes late, and we didn’t get the main course until well over an hour from arriving. Service was polite, but aloof. THEFOOD: Charcuterie plate was delicious, specifically the cheese seasoned with cumin. Meatballs, obviously a solid choice. The pork knuckle however was lacking significantly. I wish it had been finished in a fryer to get a crisp on the skin, felt like half my food was skin and tendon, and without that fry it was difficult to chew my way through everything. Meat was tender, but unseasoned. Go in for the experience, but be prepared for a long night, and try not to sweat the little things.

Nestled on a quiet street in Sodermalm, Pelikan is one of those old-school Swedish restaurants that has been around for centuries, but still feels like the neighborhood joint. Inside an enormous hall, waiters in white Oxfords and black aprons bustle about, cracking jokes with frequent patrons. The menu is traditional Swedish, with plenty of fish and game(pork knuckle being the most perplexing — which part do you eat?) On the night my boyfriend and I went, we waited 20 minutes for a table and were unceremoniously wedged in a tiny two-seater with German tourists on the left, locals on the right. The atmosphere is fantastic, and I found the food decent, if not over-priced. The salmon was expertly cooked, with excellent fingerling potatoes. My boyfriend’s risotto with cheese was surprisingly filling(and made me wonder how on earth Swedes stay so thin). My biggest complaint was the service — it took more than 20 minutes to get water, another 20 to place an order, and so on. Good if you’ve got a leisurely evening to fritter away, bad if you’re on a schedule.

My gf and I were on vacation here in Sweden from California. Went onto Unilocal and found this place. We had the Swedish meatballs and Doppsko(hash, yolk, beet salad). Both were very good. Service: My gf asked for some water as her beverage and the waitress asked if she wanted«Gas or Still». My gf wasn’t sure what she said so she asked the waitress again so the waitress said«gas or still» again and the gf asked her what she meant about gas cause she didn’t know what Gas meant and neither did I. The waitress rudely answered in a slow(you are a dumb American tone of voice) «Gas… sparkling or still!» We said still and she walked away, never coming back to check up on us until we waved her down to ask for the check. We paid, I tipped(cause I’m a nice human being) and left. She ruined our mood for our first Swedish meal experience. Ambiance: looks like an old restaurant, smelled like one too. Came here around 5−6pm and there were not many people around.

Grilled reindeer was cooked to perfection. Sauce was good. Sauce had fried mushrooms and lingonberries. Assortment of herring was tasty esp. if you like smoked fish. «$$= $ 11-$ 30» is very misleading restaurant is somewhat posh and expensive.

Pelikan was one of our more regrettable dining destinations while we were in Stockholm. While the dining hall was neat in a Harry Potter-esque kinda way and the service friendly, the food overall was disappointingly menh. We ordered the Swedish meatballs and the boiled knuckle. The meatballs, gravy, and potatoes were doused in an overly generous helping of pepper. The boiled knuckle was just of ok, similar in style to a corned beef brisket. Word to the wise — the boiled knuckle is enough food for two or maybe one really hungry sumo wrestler. We left the restaurant considerable lighter in the wallet and a little jaded that Unilocal had led us to a tourist trap. We’d loved our previous experiences with traditional Scandinavian dining but this was no foodie spot.

I came with a group of 6, and we ordered the boiled knee and the meatballs. We are college students traveling on a budget, and this was our splurge night. We did not order drinks(only water!), so our waitress did not treat us especially well. Overall, the food was good, but the service could have been better. The mashed carrot that comes with the boiled knuckle was very good though.

My friends and I were only in Stockholm for one night, so we had to make the most of it. For some reason I was put in charge of making our plans for our 24 hours in the Swedish capital, and dinner was the one thing I could not get wrong. I set my targets on Pelikan, and boy am I glad that I did. We were quickly seated in the full dining hall. The décor was simply captivating, I did not look at my menu for a good minute or two as I was so captivated by the floor tiling, the chandeliers, and the paintings on the wall. This was some establishment we had found ourselves in. When we finally got to ordering, we decided to split the Pelikan assortment of herrings and meatballs with lingonberries between the three of us. This came with some boiled potatoes as well. The herring really was something special. As the saying goes, when in Rome do as the Romans do. My limited knowledge of Swedish cuisine told me that herrings were a traditional choice of dish. I was not disappointed in the different preparations of herring. And then the meatballs, oh how the cream sauce polished the meat. I have always found the meatball to be one of the most confounding things to cook and put on a plate. But this was the best meatball I have ever had; no longer will the Ikea food court be the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Swedish meatballs or Swedish cuisine, period. My only regret is that I had but one chance to try Pelikan. Should I ever find myself in Stockholm again, «Jag kommer tillbaka.»

Another recommendation, another venue, located on a sidestreet to Götgatan. As soon as we entered the place we got greeted and seated by the headwaiter. He was correct, fun and precise when he briefed the menu and recommended their signature dish«Grosshandlarn», which is a starter, main and dessert with accompanied beverages. The restaurant is an old fashion styled restaurant with sturdy interior, which serves traditional Swedish food. It was a whole great deal of food and taste was good, although the«Grosshandlar» choice might be priced a bit too high. This is the place you go to try something different from the«regular stuff», and you get a great experience overall. Neither service or food will dissapoint you if you are open minded go try some Swedish originals.

Bim, let’s go to the Pelikan !

My friends and i were in town for a hockey game, and came here based on Unilocal reviews, and also recommendations from our hotel(which usualy isn’t a good idea). The restaurant was located about 3 blocks from our hotel, and we had no idea what to expect. I glanced at the menu and ordered what everyone came here for. when in Sweden, order the meatballs! The Swedish meatballs with lingonberries were huge. Not little like Ikea(ok, don’t laugh that i just compared it to Ikea), but the price was also bigger than Ikea’s. My meatballs, soup, and a drink came to about $ 27(converted into US$). Holy cow, for meatballs?

I was initially really excited to come here due to the history of the restaurant – their advertisement of traditional Swedish food – the beer hall look – you get the picture. But I was kind of underwhelmed. I didn’t necessarily enjoy the«beer hall»(look as much a I thought I was going to. And the food didn’t live up to my expectations either. The bread was not impressive. Cold, unappetizing. Butter-cold. I came here for Swedish meatballs, and compared to all other places I tried during my stay – they were probably my least favourite. The serving of kottbullar was four, extremely large pieces of meatballs. Due to their size, they were not as juicy and even a bit dry on the inside. The lingonberries were slammed on the plate, and there was no pickled gherkin either, but just a plain slice of pickle. The mashed potatoes were actually pretty good. We also ordered the SOS Herring & Cheese plate, and our waiter totally forgot about it and brought out our mains right away. We witnessed the same aforementioned waiter behaving obnoxiously and imposing a tip on some tourists beside us. Save your kroners.
