I was curious to try tapas in Stockholm, having recently moved from Andalusia. But although they were nice looking, I don’t think that it’s worth the money! Maybe only for drinks, they have a good selection of wines. All in all much to expensive and the menu is really underdeveloped.

Tapas with a modern and tasteful twist. Very friendly staff and good service as well as interesting menu choices. Dishes are a little small if you are hungry so the price can go up if you order more. Ask for advice from staff and let them guide you and you’ll find yourself with a tasting menu that will most certainly give your tastebuds a treat accompanied with the right beverage or your choice or the staffs recommendations. Always busy so make sure to call ahead and book a table.

This tiny restaurant serves tapas largely inspired by Barcelona — and Catalonia as a whole — with a touch of Sweden. And it was incredible. We ordered what felt like half the menu — and it sort of was, as there are maybe a couple dozen tapas to choose from and we got at least 8 of them… crispy, buttery slices of bread with a garlic tomato spread; thinly-sliced chorizo like you’ve never had chorizo before; roasted potatoes with aioli(of course!); salad with roasted pears, blue cheese and hazelnuts; cod fritters; and a selection of Spanish cheeses. And the dessert — oh my: chocolate cremoso with olive oil and sea salt. I don’t know what cremoso even is, but I love it. The thickest, creamiest soft chocolate ice cream-like substance — and coated with olive oil. It sounds odd, but I swear it works. Would I recommend this place? Claro que si!

Matkonsulatet is a small cozy restaurant in Kungsholmen serving Catalan style tapas. The dishes at Matkonsulatet are nothing special(by special I mean complex), but they are wonderful in all their simplicity. The menu has some nice classical tapas: sliced meats, Pan con Tomate(bread rubbed with tomato, olive oil and salt) and my all time favorite the Bikini Toast(toast with cheese, ham and truffle-butter). And some more experimental dishes; for example: Fennel tempura with Romesco sauce and salmon sashimi with yogurt and truffle honey(omg. that’s good). The menu changes now and then, so there is always something new to try out. Not to take away any credit from the kitchen, but what makes many of these dishes wonderful are also the high quality ingredients. The olive oil at this restaurant is just amazing(P.S. you can buy a bottle to take home). A Catalan meal would not be complete without some good wines, so a few words about the list(and after all, I do write a wine-blog). There is a nice selection of Cavas; mostly by bottle, but more than one by glass. Anne-Marie by Castell D’age, the«house cava» is a nice fresh Reserva with notes of strawberry(sorbet) and green apple. Its very refreshing, but the taste is not that long. Definitely a good house cava though. There are also some other interesting cavas on the list, like an Agusti Torello Mata Brut Reserva and another cava from Castell D’age, Aurelia. Most of the bottles, and now I’m referring to all wines, are very reasonably priced(for being a Swedish restaurant), so its not really a problem to just order a bottle. For other wines, I haven’t gone through the whole selection(for the cavas I have), but there are some interesting reds and whites and the trend seems to be ecological and bio-dynamical wines. The desserts are not to be forgotten. My favorite is the passion fruit, white chocolate and cookie crumble pudding. I have had a bit of a sweet tooth lately. But what you really want to try(if you only settle for one) is the dark chocolate mousse with olive oil and sea salt. This is just such a wonderful and actually surprising combination. Or more in the lines of «Olive oil and chocolate — why didn’t I think of it» But the whole idea of tapas is sharing, so why settle for only one dessert? Have them all and share with friends. The restaurant is great, you can tell that I adore it from my review! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, but not that much that I will have a hard time getting a table in the future =).

This is the kind of place Stockholm has so deperately been needing for so long. Great ambience, friendly attentive staff, excellent food, reasonable prices and not a hint of snootiness. A cosy little restaurant in a quiet but great location — Matkonsulatet carries on the tradition of ‘out of the ordinary’ restaurants that have graced this spot. We had made a booking a week or so in advance — and this is probably a good idea to avoid disappointment. I hope to return soon and try more delicious tapas from the menu. We had our 10 month old with us, and he slept through the evening in his stroller. Having said this, space is limited and there is quite a good buzz in the place, so I probably wouldn’t recommend taking kids.

Everything was well crafted and the flavors of the dishes on offer were impeccably harmonious. Wait staff was nice and did a good job explaining the restaurant to the newb American(me). Can’t comment on the price since I have no idea what would be the average for this area. If you’re in Stockholm for whatever reason, come eat here.

The government should promote this Consulate to Embassy immediately! I chose this place for a romantic dinner and really hadn’t heard that much about it. Before booking a table, which is recommended, I had simply checked out the menu, which gave a good«tapas with a twist» feeling to it. Service was good. Food was good. Not too pricey. The tapas themselves were not out of this world, but sufficiently unique to make me consider Matkonsulatet one of the better tapas places I’ve visited in Stockholm.

We ordered seven different dishes, including dessert. Each was delicious. Even at very good restaurants, we find it rare that each dish is that good, so we were impressed — and ready to go back for a second visit. The staff was helpful — as a previous reviewer said, there are no English menus(they have ones in Catalan!) — but the staff person gave us a thorough translation. The smoked salmon with honey and yogurt was our favorite, but it was a tough decision. The dishes seemed to us to be a fusion of Spanish/Catalan tapas, and Swedish. The result is an improvement over the sometimes too familiar tapas dishes — the cod dish was completely new to us, and excellent.

I have never been at a tapas place with this quality along with such a relaxed atmosphere. The dishes are very personal, challenging while still unpretentious. We had 8 dishes, all excellent. We tried two different reds and a fantastic vermuth to drink. The vermuth was especially good for apéritif.

Cinco… Claro! Found this place due to the almost perfect record here on Unilocal, which most probably had to qualify me for a visit. Venue is small and cozy with a charcuteri counter by the cashier. Got here around 8pm and got seated outside where they have around 4 – 5 tables. Menu is pretty small and comprehend unique tapas you probably never tried before. Also the menu is under continual innovation, which means they will swap dishes after a while. I was told that the chief keep count and only make 1000 pcs of one certain dish, and then change it to another. They couldnt tell, whether it is to keep quality high or dodge boringness, but one thing is for sure, dishes doesnt suffer from neither one. It really feels like they put a lot of effort into presentation and quality of food. Taste is different and challenging along with great service. Only disappointment or excitement is that they swap dishes, so you probably cant experience the exact same flavors again. Go here and get the salmon before countdown is over!

Visiting Stockholm on our honeymoon and came across this gem. Unfortunately we weren’t able to try everything on the menu, but we tried the shishito peppers, fried chicken, egg cooked at 60 degrees, burrata — all amazing!!! Loved the basil sauce that came with the fried chicken. Highly recommend coming here!

This surely must be the best tapas place in Stockholm. Do try the Salmon with honey and truffle and Chocolate mousse with olive oil if they’re on the menu.

Possibly the best Tapas Bar I have ever been to. It is situated in a beautiful location on the river side just opposite the Karlberg Palace. There were no tables when we arrived as we didn’t book(and it was a Wednesday night, so booking is recommended). However we took a drink at the bar, I sampled the house made cloudy apple, mint and ginger juice which was amazing. As a plus we didn’t have to wait more than ten minutes to get a table. The menu is all in Swedish, however one of the waitresses very patiently translated it all into English for us — definitely went the extra mile! We were not hungry enough for a full meal so ordered five dishes and that was plenty. All of our dishes tasted phenomenal, we tried the ham, chorizo, selection of cheeses, fried asparagus and patatas bravas. The staff were incredibly helpful and it felt slightly off the beaten track with most people speaking the native language. Will definitely return when next in Stockholm!

For sure my best meal the week I was in Sweden. Let them order for you, save room for dessert, and make a reservation! The 66 degree egg is amazing as is the smoked salmon in truffle honey and yogurt! The staff is amazing and it’s not too loud. Take your girlfriend/wife here!

I have been carefully considering which place should be my 500th review and when visiting Matkonsulatet I just knew that this was it! They have a bit off location(old Jin&Peeters /Flippin) but looking at the quality here it should work fine anyway. The premises are fairly small but they have used it efficiently so around 30 seats and it does not feel to crowded. A lot of black and white in the design and I live the feel of a small neighborhood store that the large fridge along one wall gives. Service was friendly and made us feel welcome. They handled the full restaurant really well so already they are doing a great job. We started off with a glass of cava, we tried the basic one and it was pretty good. Will however next time try the other one. The menu is built around small dishes for sharing and when we looked at the menu we struggled to decide what to have as everything sounded great. We did however start off with some charcuteries and while it was simple it was still excellent: great chorizo and salschion and the blood chorizo was excellent and the pan can tomato was just divine in its simplicity. That was however nothing compared to the Bikini toast(Iberico, truffle butter and mozzarella). It is good enough to warrant a visit in itself and good enough for us to order an extra one before dessert! The other dishes were all of great quality as well — how often do you say that was great aubergine? The egg at 63 or something degrees was also great. The desserts were also right up my alley not being to sweet so the chocolate with sea salt and olive oil was what I wanted to end dinner. From a beverage perspective they have a small but carefully selected range of Spanish wines. We did get to have tasters before selecting the lighter of the reds. Also a very good non alcoholic grape beverage available! No doubt in my mind giving this place a solid 5 as the price level is also modest(800SEK was the bill for three people)! My only worry is that it will become so popular I cannot get a spot here.
