I had never been to an Ice Bar before so when I heard that this pop up Ice Bar, ran by Coors Light, was coming to Spinningfields I decided it was probably worth a try. I had to sign up online and book an hour slot — being so popular most evenings were sold out so I opted for a Wednesday afternoon as I had the day off work for Birthday celebrations. After registering online you have to enter your debit card details and essentially set up a tab online. The way it works is that you set a maximum spend to spend at the ice bar, this is linked with a wristband you’re given, and your card is debited with the cost of the drinks you have on the day. Sounded odd at first, but when I went on Wednesday it works quite well. No cash needed. The promo staff were friendly and when we turned up we were ushered into a little hut for our wristbands — mine was, as mentioned online, linked to my debit card. We then entered the ‘pre ice bar’ which was modelled on only what I can imagine to be a ski resort hut. We ordered a Coors Light, standard. And a raspberry Coors Light cocktail. It came to £9 for both and after a quick scan of my wristband, done! Easy peasy. Out of the hour slot we booked, you actually spend 30 minutes of it in this bar, not in the ice bar. Not sure if that’s a good thing or not — as most will have booked for the actual ice bar. After they handed out some bright silver poncho type coats to keep you warm, you’re then guided into the ice bar which is COLD! –5oC to be precise. The inside is pretty impressive for s first timer — although it was extremely packed in there and a bit too loud. The drinks selection is limited — 4 or 5 drinks to choose from so most were just drinking bottled Coors Light. It was okay for an hour on an afternoon, but I wouldn’t go really out of my way to visit.
