They have recently extended their cooked chicken range which means it always smells of lovely rotisserie chickens and makes the shop impossible to walk past without getting a rumbly tummy! I think the fresh meat range is pretty good– and they will get particular cuts and meats in for you if you give them a bit of notice. Well priced– undercuts the local supermarket(waitrose) comfortably, and you get a much more personal service too Also have a small selection of Veg, fruit, dairy products etc So you can do a mini ‘one stop shop’. Its really nice that we have a proper butchers, and fishmongers in windsor was very sad when the local baker passed away a few months ago, and windsor lost the treasure of the traditional bakers shop on St Leanards rd. I have read the review above but have to say i havn’t had the same problem– infact bought a corn fed chicken, a steak and some lamb shanks today– and none of them was frozen! Keep supporting these guys!

I do always try and support the smaller traders where I can and when I can afford to, so decided to pop into J. Hunts butchers which is in the town centre. I fancied lamb shanks so asked for 2 and off he went and came back with 2 frozen ones! I asked if he had any fresh ones as I wanted them when I got home. He said there wasn’t enough demand to keep them fresh! I haven’t been back since so don’t know if things have changed either for the better or worse. He does supply many of the restaurants in the town and maybe thats his main business now. I did fully support his postman Pat campaign some years ago though. He used to have a kiddies postman Pat ride outside his shop, neatly tucked up as far as it could go to his shop front. No problems? Wrong! He hadn’t reaconed on our over zealous council officials at the ‘Royal Borough’ who said it was causing an obstruction and had to go. A battle ensued and poor old Pat and his black and white cat were sent on their way. Not too long after the first of many restaurants and bars started littering the pavements with tables and chairs. Now you can barely walk down the street without nearly being knocked over by a waiter dashing to the tables or drunken people swaying about of an evening. Our ‘Royal Borough’ are well pleased though as it now gives Windsor that ‘continental feel.‘ Come back Pat(and Jess) all is forgiven!
