A stone’s throw from the railway station(0.3 miles to be precise!) you’ll find this gem of a public house which, I have to admit, I’ve been frequenting for a while now and I’m very impressed. Open seven days a week, and recently awarded the Cask Marque, it has a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and a good mix of young and old clientele. It can get a bit rowdy when there’s a big game on the wide screen tho, but no different from any other packed pub. The décor is good, wooden floors and sofas in front of a fire in the winter where you can settle down and enjoy fine ales such as Sharps Doom Bar, draft cider and a good selection of wines. Traditional Sunday lunch is available, but booking is advisable and then there’s the hugely popular Quiz and Curry night every Wednesday. With live acoustic music from a variety of artists on Friday and Saturday evenings, and an occasional Comedy night, it’s got everything you could want from a local, and a bit more if you haven’t tried it yet, you’re definitely missing out!

The Grove has got to be the finest local pub in Taunton, they now serve great food every day, especially the Sunday Roast dinner and their puds! Always got a nice clean pint of real ale or cider on offer. I paid by card which was great. There is a new pool room out the back with a 3D tv. Its a clean tidy pub with a nice relaxing atomsphere, I recommend a visit to any one that hasnt been in recently.

Formerly the Cherry Grove, not Byker! This is a nicely refurbed local pub, often rammed when the sports crowd descend for the big games(be they football, cricket or rugby) capacity is probably only 40 – 60 though, as it’s fairly compact. A good beer garden with shelters and halogen heaters for cancer stick sufferers & chums to enjoy their sub £3 pints. Would’ve got four stars if they did any food, but this and the lack of a non-charging cashpoint(they don’t take card payments here) loses points. Tip: Although the pool table says 50p a game, just press the release button — magic!
