When I was back in Scarbough I was trying to think of a pub in the centre which has a beer garden as the weather was nice. The Cask was about the only one I could remember. The only decent lager they had on draught was Kronenbourg, which I don’t normally prefer. Still a great proper pub though.

The first time I went into the Cask was feb 95, I was only in there for one pint and didn’t recognize the place. That was until I was reliably informed by Mrs Z that the in 95 I was downstairs in the club part of the pub… Back then the Cask was a stop off on the way to a night of Metal bliss in LT’s. This time however it was for a get together of Ange’s friends from school, and I was basically there for the beer and a day out :) We were supposed to be meeting there at half seven, but it turned out that the best of her friends were having an afternoon snifter in the Cask, so we popped along for one. The one turned into five and at going on for five o’clock we merrily made our way for something to eat and to check into the hotel. Just after seven we were back in the Cask for the reunion, and what followed is a bit of a blurr. It is a really nice pub, lots of space, really friendly staff and judging by the chicken fajita that a friend of Ange had mid-afternoon, they do some pretty nice food as well. What more could you ask for? I’ll tell you what, Newcastle Brown Ale, that’s what. That is why it’s four stars and not five. At about twelveish is I was informed by the bar staff that the aforementioned beverage was no more! Shame on you Cask! you can run out of any drink you want, but not the Brown! To be fair, I was probably the reason for the drought, having been on it for four hours in the afternoon, and the same again in the evening, but still :) Twas a good night all the same, in a really lovely pub…
