Honestly, anyone with a negative review of this place can keep it in their mind they don’t like it. More room for us as this is one of the best kept secrets in Oxford and tourists usually don’t frequent it too much unless they’re brought by a local because it is off the beaten path. As the good stuff usually is. As Americans living in Oxford, we landed at an airbnb just up the street and this was the first pub we found in 2013. Damn, are we ever glad we did. The food is solid, the beer is too and you can’t beat their prices for gin and tonics. Cheap! In the summer, you can take your pint and head outside to one of the benches along the river and chat up a neighbour with a cute dog. Or you can hang out in the pretty garden. We’ve taken countless friends here, the chips are great as is the rest of the rotating menu. In the winter, the pub has a really cosy feel and the only bummer is now that we’ve moved to Summertown, it won’t be as easy to get to. I will say it is a bit pricier than other pubs in Oxford but Osney Island is a bit more affluent too so they can afford it. I will say the quality there though is easily better than most pubs in Oxford so we think it’s worth it. Highly highly recommended.

Cosy. That’s my first impression. Not far from the train station should be my second, but I’m just so taken in by the open fire and the tread bare carpets and the … dogs. Awww, so cute. Also really great Christmas seemingly handmade decoration. I just feel comfortable. the drinks are not expensive and the food is plenty. The menu has a lot of French food like onion soup and tartiflette with reblochon, but also offers the pub classics like burger and fish and chips. I tried the onion soup and it was ok with some nice bread and melted cheese. It could have more cheese on it to be honest. It seems they have a beer garden for the hot days of summer.

The place is alright. They are a typical english pub located in Osney island. They have indoor and outdoor locations. I thought they were a bit pricey and i was not a big fan of the chairs outside(they seemed very rusty and took away from the experience)

I can imagine this place being amazing in the warmer months. In the cold though? Still a comfy pub atmosphere, bitter glares from older locals and a pinch pricey menu. The one positive thing this place has going for it(aside from the location) is their willingness to work with local social groups. I came here with the 30-or-so girls of the Drunken Knitwits. Any pub that’s willing to put up with us for a few hours deserves respect.

Nice location, a bit expensive. The pub is right across the(small, quiet) road from the Thames, almost at Osney lock. It’s a very nice location, and while the pub is on one side of the street, they’re very relaxed about you taking your beer across to sit on one of the benches by the river. There’s also a garden at the back and seating inside, although we’ve always just sat by the river with our drinks. Beer selection is limited and prices are on the highish side, but if you live nearby the location makes it worthwhile.
