Tempus Bar & Restaurant

This can’t help but be a delightful venue attached as it is the the beautiful Palace Hotel. Grand C19th northern municipal style showing off the pride of Manchester’s former golden age. Ornate interior with pillars, high ceilings and plenty of ceramic tiling showing off the best of the regions former manufacturing style and design. It feels classy but without the attitude, down to earth and reasonably priced, not what you’d expect from a city centre hotel that boasts the largest amount of carrera marble outside Italy. An affordable way to impress your visitors.

After an exceptionally journey back to Manchester from Glasgow (lost house keys, sigh) I had some time to kill before collecting keys for my house and noticed Tempus, and I’m really happy that I did.
After being on holiday, I’ve developed something of a taste for Bloody Mary’s and the one I enjoyed at Tempus did not disappoint. Strong, just sour and with the right amount of spicy kick. Perfect way to de-​stress.
The bar itself is beautiful, and while it was very quiet when I visited I can imagine it being a grown up sophisticated affair for a nice drink and good solid cocktail.

inside the place looks lovely and the service was good
as we sat down and to order our starters we were told that most of the food on the menu was not avaliable
THIS IS A PRE SHOW FOOD RESTURANT AND THEY SHOULD OF BEEN PREPARED AS THE LION KING WAS ON.
anyway we were so hungry we decided to order what little they had left.
. when it arrived it looked just like you had ordered from macdonalds and tasted even worse.

we gave them the benefit of the doubt and order our main course .
when that arrived it was presented very badly and mine tasted so awful that i called the waiter over and told him how bland my pasta dish was (yuk !)
he took the food away and apoligised
we never order a dessert as they could not provide a descent starter or main so wasnt going to risk a third time.
. i ended up starving and wasting my only hour before the show on the worst food ever
i wasnt charged for the food that he took away but that wasnt the point.
it was time wasted in a place i would never set foot in again.

Quite often when I’m thinking of somewhere unique and glamourous to take friends or visitors for a quick martini cocktail, I take them to the Tempus in the Palace hotel, a Grade II listed building that is quite simply one of the most breathtaking structures in the city. It really is worthy of the title ‘Palace’ yet has been redesigned with tasteful modern décor that highlights the building’s original characteristics beautifully.
People forget that you don’t have to be staying in the building to take advantage of the superior service, surroundings and ambience and makes you feel like a million bucks, even when your cocktail is only £6.75. For me paying a little bit extra for the experience is worth every penny.
