As a non-native of Manchester, we came over for a few days to catch a United game and have a lot to drink. As we stayed in the Premier Inn not far from here, and as we arrived quite late, we came here for some food and drinks before bedtime. I was impressed probably moreso by the proximity of it rather than the actual selection. Though they did have a club or two, a pub or two, somewhere to get a bite to eat. It is like a one stop shop for people. Sadly we were only over for a few days so we came here purely as it was close and a 7.00am flight meant going into the city was not going to be possible. It was fine and seemed like a bit of a night out on its own, but I know Manchester has much more to offer, because this just seemed to be missing that little bit of class. Definately a handy ”well if all else fails” sort of place, but twice was quite enough for me.

Deansgate Locks is a run of bars running at a tangent from Deansgate the road. They are a popular drinking and clubbing area. It attracts a student clientele, but not exclusively, unlike other studenty areas. On the weekdays the student to non-student ratio is around 3:1. On the weekends there are still students here, but the ratios are reversed. Expect a lot of undergressed and over-tanned girls and a lot of rugby lads in Superdry shirts with private school written on their foreheads. The positives: There’s a Revolution There’s a Baa Bar There’s a bar called Lakota The negatives: These are all rubbish. The best place there is the Pitcher and Piano, which does great cocktails that are often 2−4−1, but why not just go to a Pitcher and Piano in a less horrible location. Deansgate itself is far nicer, and around the Castlefield end, which is a mere two minutes walk away from Deansgate Locks, there are a load of cool bars. In short, this means that there is no need to go to Deansgate Locks at all.
