How do you like them apples? I tells you, them apples ain’t just silver. They’re shiny and beautiful and darn near platinum. This little café bar on West Didsbury’s ever popular Burton Road is small, cosy, decked out in wood and just the right side of cute and quirky. With colourful wallpaper, excellent tunes, a bar stocked with fruit beer and Pieminister Pies on the menu, it can do no wrong. Add to that the coffee and cake, soup and sandwiches and a selection of other light bites during the day and you’ve got yourself the recipe for a fantastic hideaway. It’s one of those places you could pop into and end up staying for the remainder of the night, sharing a bottle of wine and putting the world to rights. The lighting and ambience really lend themselves to the friendliness of this place, and that’s backed up tenfold by the lovely, kind and chatty staff. Oh and I’m noticing something about my recent little tour of Didsbury. Do its establishments have a policy of only hiring good looking folks? Because my, the servers in Frankie’s and in Silver Apples are very easy on the eye. Goodness me, moving to the land of the beautiful people. It’s a dirty job, but…

I have recently moved to West Didsbury and, as such, have begun the extensive process of searching for a local place to hang out. The search may well be over now though as I have stumbled upon this great little bar/café. The vibe in this place is really friendly and welcoming, which is often not the case in you typical ‘trendy’ bar. The alien newspaper cuttings in the toilet are another bonus, as any reading material in toilets is a welcome addition. A great selection of Belgian beers and although I’ve not had the chance to try the food yet, the menu looks tasty as… Highly recommended local bar and if you see me in there feel free to come over and say hi, but only if you buy me a drink first!

This is one of the best places in Manchester bar none. Great music(seriously great music) and an atmosphere so welcoming that it’s borderline scandalous. The beer is great(some good ales, good draught) and the food, although not extensive, is very good and well priced. Bagels, salads and great sides, Silver Apples is without question, a place you ought to visit. Now, we’re not talking about taking a loved one for a romantic meal. This is a place to hang out, hear ace music and have the craic. For the irritatingly cutesy amongst you, you’ll also be glad to know that there’s a fine array of cupcakes for you to devour. The décor is quirky and charming and… oh to hell with this… I’m going for a pint there now.

I love Silver Apples. I came here last night to meet friends after they were finished at work. It’s a true home from home and draws in the type of person who wants to sit back, relax, consume, chat and be merry. Pie-minster pies, cask ales and Belgian beers, great music and a friendly service really draw the crowds. They call themselves a ‘Budapest-café culture inspired’ establishment. Unfortunately I haven’t been to Budapest, but if this is what it’s like, it’s on my list of places to visit. Apart from being a great place to chillax(sorry, I couldn’t help myself), Silver Apples has regular music nights including Jazz Jamboree on a Sunday and live folk, blues and world music during the week.

Really cosy place, ideal to go to as winter draws near. This place does great cask ales and the best comfort food in manchester. Think pies, sausages and gorgeous sandwiches. Great prices and fantastic staff. I am taking a few friends here this Friday as I know its an absolute winner :) Silver Apples is admittedly a strange name however its very intriguing– I like it.

Now this is what I’m talking about. I know the continuous slagging of the big bucks coffee corps has come across boring at best and downright militant at worst but if it means more places like Silver Apples are allowed to flourish then sod it. It’s quaint, it’s jazzy, and most importantly as the mornings get colder and the evenings get darker it’s warm and inviting. The best way I can describe it is like going your grandmas for tea and crumpets… if your grandma happens to be an elf. The fantastic selection of pies and sandwiches will draw you in at lunch time and the cask ales may persuade you to stay till closing– let’s be honest, where else are you gonna go in West Didsbury?

I loved this place. The gorgeous interior with quaint jazzy music gave it a warm feel. I was impressed by the short well priced menu and ordered the Pastrami bagel with salad gerkins and mustard. This came with a really good side salad including sun blushed tomatoes and olives. This was a great choice and only cost £4.50. Also sold some great looking cupcakes. Perfect for a light lunch.
