We went in a big group on a Thursday night for a farewell for a friend. The place was almost empty but they still struggled in cooking for 11 people on one ticket. The food was fine but not exceptional perhaps this is coloured by the fact we waited over an hour for our food didn’t help matters. It is a shame as the waiters are very friendly and the restaurant is in a good location near many bars in Chorlton I would recommend. However I won’t rush back for a meal at Sher Akbar.

I’m surprised this place hasn’t been reviewed yet, given its sheer scale and the fact it’s opposite some very popular Chorlton hangouts such as Marble Beerhouse. The interior is sleek, dark and modern and the amount of seating would mean you could definitely have a few very large groups eating at once. There were only a few fellow diners when we ate here though, so the service was efficient. It was a mighty fine meal — everything from the chutney tray and poppadums to the main courses themselves were all well-presented, decent quality and tasted good. After we’d paid we all agreed that it was a very reasonably priced meal. A bit on the ‘glossy side’ for me if I’m honest, but apart from that, I’d recommend it and would eat here again. Tip: they also offer a takeaway service.
