This may be my favourite bar in Chorlton. It has a great range of beers and you can normally get a seat. There is always a good atmosphere when they play music it is fairly quiet so you can still have a conversation. If you want a live DJ banging out tunes the are plenty of places close by. It is at its best on a summer evening when you can sit out on the front and have a beer in the sun. It does do food but it is not particularly memorable. This is the the perfect place to meet up with friends, sit around a table and have good chat.

Second only to Marble in my opinion, for range and quality of Ales(they sell Marble’s brews too) they keep. Music never too loud, enough tables for a good chance of a seat most of the time, friendly staff, not too«in your face» atmosphere-wise. For a few excellent pints and a chat with mates, Bar cannot be faulted; good food too.

The Bar used to be the place that everyone creamed over before Dulcimer and Oddest opened, leaving this Chorlton institution(Ha!) looking a bit bereft of point. You see, whilst there’s nothing wrong with the venue, it really has lost its raison d’être because now it is yet another bar that sells Erdinger Dunkel. That is probably something of a hyper-criticism though because in essence, I’ve always had a reasonably good time in there, but that’s probably more to do with the company I keep rather than the bar itself. In the past, it has been pretty rammed which is always a pain in the nuts, but having not been in for a while, I’ve no idea whether the other venues on the main drag have started stealing their custom. All in all, its a decent enough little pub but it won’t prise your eyes open in astonishment.

Many Chorltonites rave about«The Bar», but every time I’ve been in there I’ve been disappointed. Yes, it serves a relatively decent range of beers, but this is Chorlton — every bar here serves a relatively decent range of beers. The décor is shabby and could do with a bit of a refit, and there always appears to be some idiots on the decks who appear to take great delight in playing their music so loudly that you can’t hear yourself think(indeed, the last time I was there, the levels on the decks were so screwed that the sound was becoming fuzzy and distorted — when I politely asked them if they could turn it down, they just ignored me). However, I did witness the best(or worst, depending on your opinion) gig I’ve ever seen there last year. This comprised of a rather intensely intense looking man sitting in the middle of the room with an electric guitar and an amp. His«act» appeared to consist of screaming at people to stop talking so they could listen to his absolutely appalling sounding post-rock stylings. What a winner. Anyway. The Bar is nothing special, but if everywhere else is full and you fancy being deafened in the name of entertainment, give it a try.

A fave on the high street in Chorlton. Nothing special about this place but it remains popular and one of the few bars that hasn’t shut down and re-opened as something else in this area. Bit more expensive than other places. Few tables to sit at outside.

Another Chorlton institution, the Bar is one of three great bars on a row of shops opposite Morrisons(the others being Abode and newcomer The Nook). While many bars in Chorlton go for mood lighting and dark walls, The Bar has a brighter, more airy feel to it, and despite the large number of tables(required for the busy times), it never feels cluttered or cramped and is a pleasant environment to enjoy a few pints at any time of the week. They have a good selection of lagers and ales and even the odd wheat beer(such as Erdinger) on tap, and a great jukebox with a varied playlist which is often(though not always) left on during busy periods, I’m sure everyone could find something they like on there! The Bar attracts an older clientele than many Chorlton bars, probably attracted by the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and the good beer! Definitely a place to go for a few drinks with your friends, highly recommended.
