As my other half sweats too much while eating, let alone a hot curry, we don’t frequent many curry houses together. When he wants a curry, we usually order from his favourite Mahbub so we can watch him sweat while eating his curry at home, in private. The food is very good and this latest visit was no exception. We ordered vegetable samosas, seek kebab, fish tikka balti and moglai lamb lazia. The dishes came with rice or naan and we were given poppadoms and a portion of each mango chutney, onion chutney and minty yoghurt. The food is always good for the price we pay and for a takeaway. Although this place doesn’t do deliveries, it’s always a pleasant experience to come in store and place our order as we get to watch the busy open kitchen in action. The staff are very friendly and professional and you’re offered coffee while you wait for your order(of a main meal). I would highly recommend a visit for those in the Chorlton area.

I’m really impressed with this curry house! Quick and friendly service, reasonable prices, and most importantly — delicious food. We ordered the set meal for 2 which was a huge amount of food, for only £18. It was ready within 20 minutes and when we went to pick it up the staff were super friendly and had thrown in some poppadoms and chutneys. The set meal ended up being enough for three meals for two people, and trust me we are not of the small appetite persuasion. The meat set meal includes lamb and chicken curries, pilau rice(which came replete with peas which I’ve never seen before and very much enjoyed), naan, and a mushroom curry. As my boyfriend doesn’t really rate mushrooms I ate most of that for my lunch the next day, which was very enjoyable. I’d happily order from here again — and next time I might just pop in to place my order now that I know I’ll get free coffee and Bombay mix!

This is my faviourite Chorton takeaway. I’ve been buying food from here for years. The Mogulai Biryani is delisious and the Balti Lamb is excelent. I’m now a vegiterian and the Mahbub still provides me with excelent food. My favioiurites are now a selection from the range of Vegitarian Side Dishes. The friendly staff are also willing to do a Paniar(indian cheese) version of most of the main dishes.

I have been using this Take away for the last 10 years it is the best Asian take away in Manchester! After trying many, many restaurants and take aways I eventually found this one.(After snapping one of the Coronation St celebs coming out of here!) Excellent food, excellent service, highest standards of hygeine and very reasonable prices. Many’s the time that I have been given freebies! Just tell them David the press-photographer recommended them! David from Didsbury

This glorious Indian takeaway on Wilbraham Road is an emerald painted gem of of a place to which I first frequented four years ago based on a recommendation. This referral did not originate from an enthusiastic Chorltonite but from a city dweller who regularly climbs into her car, traverses the dreaded Deansgate traffic and enters the suburbs just for a taste of the Mahbub. Ironically, she rarely does this trip to come and visit me at home, but perhaps thee lure of the Mahbub is greater than my sparkling wit and bewitching repartee. Whatever the case, I decided to check it out for myself. Yes, she was right, this is great Indian food. The portions are large and one curry and pilau rice easily serves two people. It is not in the same ilk as those irritating takeaways which give you enough curry but three grains of rice to go with it. Then you have to order a second portion of overpriced rice, then there is too much and… well, yoou catch my drift. Mahbub is not a member of this international conspiracy to shortchange the curry loving Proletariat. The meals are lovely and if you order two, the management throw in a little extra such as poppadoms or onion bhajees. Nice touch! This balti house extraordinaire specialises in North Pakistani cuisine and the average price of a balti is £6.90(rice or naan included). I think their set meal for two could feed a small army and it only costs £16. It is advisable to make a telephone order here because this joint is so popular there is always a queue but if you just fancy a curry on the spur of the moment then you can take a seat and you be served complimentary coffee while you wait(little ones get a lollipop). Mahbub has great manners and great manners– love it!

While it sounds like a pet name someone from the Deep South would give their girlfriend or boyfriend, Mahbub is actually one of Chorlton’s Indian takeaways. And it’s about as friendly as you can get with all the free poppadoms they throw in and the Bombay mix you can nibble on. While they don’t deliver they’re certainly worth walking to and I couldn’t recommend anything more for a night in with friends. They’re open until midnight so they’re one of the more discerning takeaways, certainly not a drunken snack stop. But then again we are in the ‘burbs here, it’s a much more sophisticated affair. Mahbub is one of the best value for money takeaways around and it’s high quality to boot.

I swear that my ex-housemate thought that Mahbub cuisine was one of the main food groups. She’d get a takeaway from here at least twice a week. So on my first visit it’s fair to say that my expectations were pretty high. On arrival my boyfriend and I placed our order for the vegetarian meal for two, and were offered fresh coffee and bombay mix whilst we waited for our dishes to be prepared. You can watch the friendly staff cooking your meal, and with free drinks and snacks why bother phoning ahead?! Fast-forward to a week later. I am sitting in my kitchen waiting for my microwave to ping — I’m de-frosting the last part of the vegetarian banquet. After stuffing our faces couple of popadoms, dips, onion bhajees and naan breads with a fair attempt at all of the curries we were given, my boyfriend and I had no choice but to retire. The banquet for 2 is really enough to feed at least 4 people! I assume that the meaty alternative would be even more filling. Next time my cupboards and fridge are empty I know where I’ll be going for my next week’s worth of sustenance!

Sweet as curry house. This is the best take-away in Chorlton if you are looking for a curry. Friendly staff who gave us free popodums even though we refused the paid ones. Beutifully tasty chicken. Only complaint is the vindaloo was not that hot but Karahi and Korma were realy good. Open till midnight, but they don’t deliver. Get yourself to Manchester and pay a visit.
