My first ever Toby Carvey experience! To be honest — I wasn’t expecting THAT much from a chain, pub-grub style place but I was actually pleasantly surprised. The building itself is pretty fancy-looking, and when we arrived we were greeted quickly. As we hadn’t made a booking, we were told the wait would be around 30 – 40 minutes, but there’s a nice bar area to wait in. A large glass of wine and a pint of lager came to around £8, which isn’t too bad. After waiting about 20mins, we were called to our table. We opted for the standard Sunday roast, and went to queue up for the carvery. The queue wasn’t too long, and it took us less than 10mins to get to the front.(Obviously, I kept my wine with me during this time). The meat portions we were carved did feel a little meagre, but the gammon and pork I opted for were really tasty. You can also load up your plate with as many roasties and veg(there’s mash too) as it can take. The potatoes were slightly overdone, but the rest of the veg were great — and I really enjoyed the mint gravy. Just a shame they don’t do lamb, eh? We decided to splash out(cause hey, Sunday night) and order dessert too. I chose the profiteroles and they were great — big portion and filled with oozy cream. The only(super minor) niggle was that all the chocolate sauce was at the bottom of the dish. They also had one of those SUPERCOOL soft drink machines with lots of flavours. Vanilla Pepsi all the way! A great place for an inexpensive Sunday roast — if you don’t mind queuing for a bit to get your food.

This place is as good as Toby Carvery’s come! The atmosphere is inviting, the staff are efficient and friendly and the portion sizes are large! The quality of food is very very good and above all fresh! I would highly recommend if you are looking for somewhere cheap and very cheerful! Excellent value for money!

A good place to go on a Sunday if you can’t be bothered making a Sunday roast at home. Get there early as possible though or you may have to wait a while to get a table and/or queue for the carvery counter. Obviously its a carvery in a pub — and the food quality reflects this, but it is very nice, and I have returned to this place many many times. Its also nice on a Sunny day to visit here(perhaps after a walk round Eagle pond?) and sit outside for a drink. Oh and last time I went I think it was £8 ish for the carvery, so including a drink your looking at lunch for a tenner :-)

OK, if your idea of good food is lots and cheap, this is the place for you. If you want anything more sophisticated, you’d do better to look elsewhere. The food is decidedly pub chain pap. Better than some, because of the carvery, just not a lot better. Toby angered a lot of residents(myself included) when they insisted on changing the name from The Eagle(which it had been for hundreds of years) to «Toby Carvery» as they wanted their branding to be the most important thing. That should tell you where it is coming from. Still, not a bad place for a works outing or the like.

Decided to head up here with my boyfriend, since I had a voucher from the Daily Mail offering a full Sunday roast type meal with a sundae, all for £5. Was impressed by the homely and warm atmosphere, and even more so by the amount of food. Choice of turkey, roast beef, or pork, with an ample(and unlimited!) selection of accompanying food items — yorkshire puddings, stuffing, veg and potatoes. By the time the sundae came around, we were already too full. In terms of value for money, I highly recommend :) I’m definitely going back there again but not too soon, I’m still digesting the last meal from a week ago.
