That awkward moment when you get to a meze kitchen before remembering that you don’t do sharing food… As a lover of Greek cuisine however, I was relieved to see their selection of individual courses and opted for their grilled halloumi to start, followed by their Kleftiko: slow-cooked, braised lamb shank with potatoes and grilled vegetables. Grump over. The halloumi was done to perfection. Thing is about the lamb was, tasty as it was(it fell off the bone. Enough said), if you blindfolded me, I wouldn’t have known I was eating authentic Greek lamb, as opposed to an upmarket pub roast. The flavour wasn’t completely there, but it was warming and extremely satisfying. They have a full bar with a selection of Greek beer and wine. The waiter recommended to me a delicious white wine that a) didn’t taste of vinegar and b) didn’t cost the earth. Who’d have thunk it?! My evening at this quaint little family-run restaurant was finished with a decent sized, warm chocolate brownie and chocolate ice cream. I would definitely go there again. Tip: Meze Kitchen is a great place for large groups and families: for those of you who do like to share.

Opa! I found a nice little Greek restaurant in my neighborhood. I started with the grilled haloumi starter and enjoyed a main of traditional Moussaka. All was delicious from start to finish. This was my third time dining at Mezé Kitchen, two of which I had the Moussaka and it has been consistently delicious. Their house red wine isn’t too bad, quite mild but probably not suitable for the wine connoisseur. The atmosphere is nice with good lighting and good service. The weekends are busy it seems however you’ll be able to get in without too much of a wait if any. Surprisingly they aren’t on Top Table or Open Table so don’t bother. I couldn’t find a website for the place but that’s not really required to serve a nice meal. If you’re in the area give them a go should you be craving some Greek. It was recommended to me by a lovely Greek lady and you can’t go wrong when you get that kind of endorsement. Anyway, put this one on your list because it’s a little gem in Balham’s crown. Enjoy and stin iyia sou, y’all from this American Southerner in London.

Bland and tasteless food, do they think they serve real, authentic Greek food? It must be a joke. Ok, the staff was very friendly, but what about the quality of the food? I ordered a chicken kebab with rice… tasteless. The chicken was kind of boiled(didn’t taste as grilled meat at all), and the rice was totally tasteless. The starter was not better, tasteless and very small portions. Wouldn’t even go back if they offered me a free meal.

Great authentic Greek food which was fresh and tasty. On the second visit we had the shared meze and that is an excellent way of tasting a little of a wide range of dishes. Try the whitebait with lots of fresh lemons to zing it up. The staff are family and very helpful and friendly. A good summer venue with the front of the restaurant open to the street. We’re definitely going back!
