OK place. The interior was pretty and how you would picture a London pub. We arrived around 7 pm. We seated ourselves but no waitress ever came to the table. I mean, I understand the culture there that you have to order drinks at the bar, but this was the first restaurant where we had to approach the server. Even at this early time for dinner, my husband was told they were out of several items and she circled what was available. He brought the menu back to the table and we both decided on the fish and chips(again.) He, of course, had to walk over to the waitress to place the order(weird) as well as our beers. The food did come out promptly and was hot. I suppose I was expecting a «wow moment» for the food since fish and chips are very British. Sad to say, I was not wowed. It was ok, just not what I was wanting. Oh well. Glad we experienced the cool pub, though.

Clean, comfortable pub that’s affiliated with Fuller’s and also offers a fairly decent food menu. There’s a lot of room to spread out when it’s not busy, although I’d imagine that it sees a healthy after-work crowd due to its City location. For me, everything, whether the beer, food, or service, was quite average. A perfectly decent experience.

If you are traveling to London you must make a visit to HDQ. This is probably one of the best pubs in London. The honey dew beer is a must. Light in flavor and very refreshing. The sweetness of honeydew in a beer. So refreshing you can indulge and have two or three or more. The fish and chips is also a must and cooked to perfection. I tried fish and chips all over London and in Ireland. Nothing comes close to the fish and chips at HDQ. The chips are perfectly cooked and crispy. The fish delicate with a very nice crust. Their meat pies are also to die for. The pastry is light and flakey and the meat fillings very tasty and delicious. We each ordered two different pies and all were delicious. Forget the diet you are on holiday. 5 star experience at a very reasonable price. Just go there early. The kitchen closes at 8 pm. Then after all the good food and beer is gone take a nice walk and enjoy the city lights. Wish I was back in London just thinking about HDQ.

I think this might be a chain, but I don’t know. I ended up ordering the house pie, which I think rotates, and that day was a steak and stilton pie. Pretty tasty, came out piping hot, although in need of a little salt, and with tons of stilton that I could smell as soon as I broke in to it. Crust was good, decently flaky. All in all, after not really having eaten much since the night before, this was a nice meal. Service was a little bit slow, especially in «initiating» the order, and then maybe because of the nature of the food, things just took a while to cook. In any case, while I doubt I’ll have a chance to return, I wouldn’t rule this out.

Great ambience & friendly staff. Very down to earth! Known for their pies, different however worth the effort. Recommend the house pie!

I came to this place on a Thursday at 5:30 following some good reports on Unilocal,I wish I hadn’t done so. The first minute I went in I felt the staff was very unfriendly, they seem as if they were dragged to work, during the time unspent at the hung drawn and quartered I did not see one smile from staff. At first I sat down in the ear-in area by myself and waited for over 20 minutes for someone to take my order, a waitress came to take the order from the table next to me and when I asked her if she could take my order, she looked at me and turned away without saying anything and never came back. Someone else took my order. The order came relatively fast, but the portion was small and not filling at all, so much that on my way to my hotel I stopped and bought a bar of chocolate. After I finished the food come another half hour of waiting for someone to bring the bill. Eventually unpaid and ran the hell out of there. Overall I had an unpleasant experience, food was below average, portions was small and service was very poor. Not recommended at all.

This is a great place for fresh British flavored! We enjoyed the food very much. We ordered three items. The fish and chips were perfectly crispy! The house pie was Stilton blue cheese and steak, super wow! The lamb pie was also an amazing flavor filler journey. We also ordered some local craft beers. Both were mild and wonderfully flavored.

This place was pretty good. We shared a sandwich and one of their pie/beer sampler plates. Loved the pastry on the pies! And they had some inventive fillings like squash and goat cheese for example. All were delightful. The ham/cheese sandwich was very nice with big chunks of ham — just like I’d make at home.

Great pub. Excellent food, service, and vibe. In my opinion, the pies qualify as art work. I got a steak and blue cheese pie.(I forgot the dish’s proper name.) The steak was lean, no wasted motion on the cuts. Came with mash, gravy, and peas. Delicious. Along with a London Pride Porter, it was about £17 — Not bad considering the area: e.g. City of London, Tower Hill, next to the castle and the Thames. Definitely recommended.

Great place to meet up up clients for a quick drink and maybe a light meal. Typical bar food with good appetizers. Fish and chips are decent, but not spectacular.

Visited here a few times after work hours for a few quick pints. Very busy immediately after work with the suit and tie crowd. Definitely a cool place with old artwork and the signature hanging noose. Service was quick even went busy.

Nice little pub with a hangman’s noose above the bar. A very good place to grab a pint and have a chat with your friends.

Now, when I mentioned that I thought the names of the pubs in London were pretty cool, I simply could not find one with a better name that this. In fact, as far as I’m concerned, this is the best name of any pub that I have seen, though it probably takes it from it being in the vicinity of the Tower of London, in which many, many people were hung, drawn, and quartered. I came across this pub as I was wondering down Eastcheap, conveniently looking for a pub where I could have a beer, in the old tradition of Henry IV part 1, where a part of the play takes place in a tavern. Unfortunately that tavern no longer exists, and this pub isn’t on Eastcheap, however it is close enough to count. It was pretty crowded when I came here, early afternoon on a Good Friday, which meant that I was not able to find a seat, and it was way too cold to sit outside. However the impressive paintings, and the noose that hangs from the ceiling over the bar(and not to mention the name) certainly made up for the lack of space where I could sit down and drink my beer. I’m sure that the next time I come to London I will be paying a visit.

We really enjoyed this place after a tour of the Tower. We just walked over. They closed before we could order food, but the beer was great and the staff was just top notch. VERY friendly, kind and warm. I’d have a round of beers here anytime.

We stopped in after hours of photography around London, needing some liquid refreshment and a bite to eat. Both were available and met the standard for London pub fare. Fish and chips are fish and chips. Meat pie is meat pie. Beer is beer. Moving on…

This Awe-inspiring and very cool pub is a Fullers chain pub. The amazing artwork, pictures and décor really set the scene and is like stepping back in time. A noose hangs above the bar which is a great novelty for the name of the pub. Good selection of beers on draught, wines and cask ales. Food menu is very traditional and distinctive — great British food. Famous for their selection of unique pies like Beef and Oyster and three cheese and marmite, exceptional classics like Mud Crab burger and battered hake and skins on chips. They even have awesome grazers like Bone Marrow on Toast! Amazing! Prices are slightly expensive, however it’s worth paying that bit extra for a fantastic experience. I ordered the fishmongers board which was delicious. Beautiful Prawns, Calamari and Hake Staff are friendly, especially the attractive French barmaid. Add this pub to your ‘bucket list of pubs’ — Fantastic.

Well yeah, of course Pats and Pats are going to head into a pub called Hung. .. Drawn & Quartered. Adorable bartender, and quite a comely crowd of appealing British men. Looked like an after work crowd. My companion, being the art geek she is, enjoyed the hell out of the fantastic amounts of old art on the walls. In fact, she was a total dork about it. I say this with love, ‘cos it was damned amusing. And they have cider there too. Cider and art and hot British men. Call this one, also MKP. My Kinda Place.

Interesting pub with a perfect name, very near to the Tower of London. It does close disappointingly early on Sundays(door said 6pm, but when we arrived at about 5:30, we were told they were closed already), but it is worth a visit when it’s open. The inside is a tiny bit macabre(in a good way), with nooses hanging from the ceiling and somewhat menacing portraits of Henry VIII and other royals from that time period scattered around, which gives a great«old time» feeling to the pub(with the exception of the TVs found in some corners), and sets the tone well for the Tower of London area. The Ale was good, as was the house wine, and though we didn’t have any food, the menu was tempting. The bartender was friendly, and though the pub was empty when we first arrived, it was doing a brisk trade by the time we left. We happily found a nice little nook to curl up in, under the watchful eyes of Henry VIII, and enjoyed having a couple of drinks and relaxing. All in all, if you’re in the area, this pub is definitely worth a visit, and I look forward to going back the next time we’re in London.
