Grand Union Kennington

Two cocktails for one in HH? Yes please !
It’s in that promise that a friend got me to accompany him at Grand Union. I wasn’t disappointed by the overall experience.
I just had been tattooed and wasn’t supposed to drink… which i quickly forgot, obvisouly. I believe i remembered around the 4^th cocktail.
The décor is vieux chic, passed colours, ancient greatness, former glory. I loved it.
The big red couch appealed to us and was comfortable. The place is big so you get a lot of seating options. There’s also another floor and a roof terace (which we tried but it was still cold and we quickly made it back inside).
Service at the bar was nice and quick.
I’d go check it out if I were you !

Terrible experience — was first seated upstairs, but when no one came up to actually help me I reseated myself downstairs and eventually got up to order for myself at the bar. I received the wrong starter and wrong main course. After an hour in the restaurant they brought around the correct main, but the starter was nowhere to be found… I gave up and left 12 pounds lighter and still hungry.
Give this one a pass.

This isn’t my usual area of town and sadly it is a good ¹⁰⁄₁₅ minutes walk from a tube station BUT it is definitely worth a visit. The décor is shabby chic and there is a great function room available for higher upstairs. I also have a massive crush on their wall paper — yes that’s right, wall paper — it’s so beautiful! Please check it out on arrival.
The staff were absolutely lovely. I accidentally spilt my drink and they kindly replaced it for free which I thought was really kind as it was my 100% my fault. I honestly couldn’t thank them enough.
There was also a great 2 for £10 offer on cocktails for the evening which I took full advantage of. The cocktails were never full but they were strong and I enjoyed them thoroughly. A real bargain if you ask me. The strawberry daiquiri in particular was yummy!
The remaining drinks list however was a little pricey — £7 for a house wine. Eeek. So I would definitely recommend heading there for happy hour!
Really nice relaxing pub and definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!

Great place for cocktails, they have a happy hour each day until 8 (I think it starts at 5pm?), enjoy your cocktail on their roof terrace in the summer! Food is OK, I had a burger which was a bit small but the menu has quite a few other options that may be better. Things such as sharing platters, hot dogs and flat bread pizza. Gets pretty busy on Fri/​sat evenings

Nette Bedienung und gutes Essen. Kann ich nur weiterempfehlen. Wir hatter die Starter Platter und die war für 2 Personen ein super Mittagessen.

So cute! This place breathes atmosphere. The drink list is extensive and the bar food was tasty. Bartenders are fun & helpful. Visit the rooftop terrace for the view

Lest start with the service the waitress was great pleasant knowledgable the place was crawling with people but I felt like she gave us a great amount of attention we never wondered where she was cause she was always visible and never pushy. The beer was amazing it was one my friend recommended and the food was out of this world. It’s the first meal I’ve had in London and it’s one of the best meals I’ve ever had. We at the union platter and the sliders we tried all the sliders and they were all sever warm and ready, we didn’t feel like they waited for us cause we were a small party. I will go back before I leave London

The Grand Union Kennington is a good place for a drink south of the river not far from Waterloo and Lambeth North tube station.
The drinks were reasonably priced (for London) and the bar wasn’t too crowded although it was a quiet Wednesday night. All in all a decent place to go.

Oh my… The power I have. First reviewer. I’ll start out by saying I’m American, so take this review with a grain of Atlantic ocean salt… But I thought this was a pretty decent place. I ordered a Hawaiian pizza which was quite tasty… Thin crust, big enough for a hungry person… And it came out pretty quickly. The bar staff was nice and pretty easy on the eyes too. The table I sat at was a little rickety and their Guinness tap wasn’t pouring correctly (tasted fine though). I sat inside and it was a Tuesday night so not too busy. Seems like it’d be good for groups. No dress code it seemed… And from the outside it looked like they had a decent outdoor area on the roof. It was raining out the day I was there, go figurel. A little dark and a seat is not guaranteed, but I went there for their burgers promotion (2 for 1) with a friend and got a table — the burgers were absolutely AMAZING. There were all sorts of options — healthy ones, breadless, vegetarian, different kinds of meats, all of them beautifully presented gourmet affairs, and at a decent price too!
Their chips were also very much of the good quality variety, which matters. Just the right size, shape and crispiness.

I have to give this place 2 stars in the end. With the roof terrace open in the summer it is probably worth a 3but then once you take into account temperature and precipitation, what percentage of nights a year is the roof terrace actually useable. maybe 25%?
Apart from the excellent terrace I didn’t really like the place. Downstairs was busy but the music was bad and the drinks choice was poorlager, wine and spiritsbut nothing interesting. Resorted to bottled perry (you may know it as pear cider).

I hidden gem of a bar. The décor has a very nice indie feel to it. The bar is set over two floors, the top of witch has a roof top terrace. There is a good selection of drinks on sale with special offers on a lot of them.
There food is very good, with service being very quick.
