Went looking for a place to eat fish and chips and stumbled upon this place and I have to say it was delicious! It is cash only and is very small but the service is great and the food was amazing. The meal is very big and I had mushy peas and couldn’t even finish it. I would definitely go back to this place when I visit London again.

This is a truly crappy fish bar. Damp fish, undercooked yet somehow mushy chips. Please take a moment to understand why it is almost empty at all times. Also expect acoustic covers of Psy and One Direction and a cash only register.

First off: much better than poppies. Great fish, fast and helpful service and great potions. You’ll leave full happy and feeling like you got good value for your money.

Having just flown into town and got dropped off at Waterloo station, my girlfriend and I were starving and just happened upon this place. We both enjoyed it and it helped us knock fish and chips off the bucket list for our trip to London!

The fish and chips is really nice, and the price is very fair. Location is good too, right next to the main entrance of Waterloo station under the bridge. The Fried chicken is also very delicious.

The GF and I were around Waterloo Station one night, feeling a bit peckish for some fish and chips. We looked a good thirty minutes for a proper pub still serving food past midnight. Alas, none were available so we settled on Fishcoteque. Located along a busy street, the atmosphere inside was cozy and adorned with plenty of marine décor. Regular Cod & Chips [8.95 Pounds = $ 14.65] The GF went with the cod and chips. The fish was clean, light, and fluffy, with the crispy batter lending a great crunch to each bite. There wasn’t much, if any, seasoning, but there was nothing a bit of salt and vinegar couldn’t fix! The chips were well-fried as well, with a creaminess within. Regular Haddock & Chips [8.95 Pounds = $ 14.65] The skin-on haddock was similar in texture, though with a finer flakiness and had some bones. Mushy Peas [1.95 Pounds = $ 3.19] The side of mushy peas were mushy indeed. More like split pea soup, the GF enjoyed them, though I thought they could’ve used a bit more seasoning. The check came in a cute maritime chest, with a few chocolate coins to boot! FYI — cash only. Service was friendly and Fishcoteque fit the bill for our fish and chip needs.

Close to my college and I was in need of a cheer up meal one very rainy cold weekend. Opted to eat in and was brought a large plaice and chips. It wasn’t the best in the world, the chips being a little old but the fish was quite good — did seem to be frozen though. I’m going to be at that college for a while longer, not sure if I’ll stop in again, there aren’t that many options around, but probably going to give others a try.

Says on the door that the fish is delivered daily from Billingsgate. It couldn’t get any fresher, fabulous fish and chips as good as you get on holiday. Good value especially given its location opposite Waterloo Station

My first fish & chips in London a couple of months ago. I had a cod with chips. The cod was perfect, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The chips were not that good… they looked more boiled than fried. The service was ok, and they were really fast… I guess I could go back to try other variety of fish, and maybe give the chips another shot…

Can’t say that I’m knowledgable about English fish and chips, but this was a step above the US variety and the couple of London pubs where I’ve tried the dish The cod was tasty and the batter good and not greasy. I had the salad. It was a nice mix of lettuce cabbage carrots tomato and red onion. Tasty. Good price.

On a Sunday at noon it can be hard to find a fish and chips shop open, and sure enough the place we wanted to go to take a friend on her first visit to London was closed. This was the closest alternative, but nothing about it lived up to our expectations. The staff are all non-English(not a criticism, but when you go for fish & chips, you kinda want a Cockney accent, rather than an East European one, from your server) and the fish, though apparently fresh, and cooked to order, had absolutely no flavour whatsoever, and neither did the batter. Finally, the pricing is way out of whack, though this is probably no surprise, given its location. Definitely not recommended.

I got the«regular» cod fish and chips. I was hoping for better than what I got. It was ok, but I think it was too greasy. The regular with chips is huge. Enough for two people. And it was almost 8 quid which is a bit much for a «regular» fish and chips. They did the malt vinegar and salt right, but I would have preferred a lighter and crispier batter with a lot less chips. I’ve heard I can get better F&C in London than here. I“m sure that’s true as I’ve certainly had better in the states.

Great find at rush hour! We had just finished the Secret London bike tour and my daughter was starting to get her hungry/angry look in her eye that means danger! We got turned away from a few places because of crowds, then found this gem of a spot! Ambience: 2.5 stars. Kitschy hole-in-the-wall. Service: 5 stars. Really! We were immediately greeted and invited in by a man at the counter, then our server Huyeshin took over – he was great! Prompt, attentive, polite service – they seemed really happy to have us there. Food: 4 stars. My wife says the fish and chips were the best she ever had! A giant cod filet, with crispy breading(not greasy at all) and light, flaky fish – delicious! The kids had burgers that were fine; the baked beans are great! Overall, definitely a great find and value at rush hour in this part of the city!

Really enjoyed this little place. The cod was crispy on the outside and perfectly soft on the inside and came out piping hot. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the restaurant was really clean. The chips were pretty good as well! I would definitely go back.

This place served what easily were the worst chips I’ve ever had in my life; soft, soggy and disgusting, so much that I had to pour enough vinegar on them so I could convince myself it was my own fault. See? Those chips were so bad, THEYWARPEDMYMIND. Everything else was alright, though.

I’ve been meaning to write this update for quite some time cause I’ve converted. They did a 180 with a new, direly-needed renovation. Now it’s decorated with a modern nautical vibe with glossy floors and crystal lighting. I wouldn’t say it’s the best fish and chips I’ve ever had but it’s incredibly convenient, less than a block away from Waterloo station. The chips are especially yummy and the batter on the fish is delicious and doesn’t get soggy fast, which is a huge complaint of mine. For takeaway, you can get in and out with a cod and chips in under a minute; the haddock takes 10 minutes extra. Plus they offer a nice 20% student and worker discount.

This was by far the worse experience at a resturant I have had in a very long time. Fish was sitting in warmer. This should of been my first tip to run. When fish arrived chips looked bland and tasted even worse. Fish was ok size but was soggy and greasy when it arrived. Cut into piece and grease just poured out. It seemed to me they reheated the fish and chips by trying to refry it. Would never try this place again or send my worse enemy to it. Would rate it lower if possible. Not sure why it’s 4* rating comes from.

A combination of two factors saw me into Fishcotheque. First of all I fancied chips and second I couldn’t pass a place by called Fishcotheque. That’s about it, really(the chips were good)!

I would suggest this place to be called Chipotheque as opposed to Fishcotheque(as the entire menu comes with chips but not all comes with fish) except for this name change to actually happen, the chips would have to be good, and they’re not. But then again, their fish isn’t good and they’re called fishcoteque, so really, what difference does it really make? The four of us ordered haddock and onion rings(free replacement from chips), cod and chips, and rock and onions to share with some gherkin(pickles). One thing that everything I just named have in common is that they are all soggy, with the onion rings being particularly under fried(still better than the freezer-burnt fries). All the dishes were about 9GBP. So some pain points: — all foods are soggy and flimsy — the rockfish comes with giant bone in(which kinda looked gross) — all fish had skin on under the batter — the haddock was better than the cod and rockfish — they use heinz tartar sauce in a package — takeaway is cheaper by a pound — the food wasn’t good — neither was the service(i think the girl might have still been asleep) I don’t particularly understand the high rating on Unilocal, but you might want to take a look at the filtered reviews because they’re all seem to be one star real reviews.

I don’t know why, but this place seems to only be popular to old people. As a college student, I only really go here because it’s close to the dorm that I live in. I think they are open until 10 or 11pm, which pretty nice. However, the fish and chips here are not too good. The fish also comes with bones in it. The chips taste ok if you eat them immediately, but if you set them for about a minute, they’ll just taste rubbery and weird. I always get take-away from here, so the chips are fairly bad by the time I walk back to my room. Granted they give large portions of these chips, so if you think all food are equal, you’d appreciate this. Oh yeah, and the workers think they’re really cool when they are loading your chips into the bag. They just look so smug when they shovel the chips in and shake the bag. Nonetheless, if you get their quarter or double quarter pounder burger, you will be satisfied. Those are not bad.
