I must start this review with a few tears:(… Disappointing. You know when you get one of those places you never get around to going to but you really want to eat there? Well I finally caught my unicorn today and it turned out to be three legged, wooden ass. Crown chip shop café looks really nice and quaint. Although looks score points, food wins prizes, and this is where Crown fell from grace. I love my battered sausage and chips. I love it a little to much and eat it more often than my gasping arteries appreciate. So I know a little about double dipping your chips to get them nice and fluffy inside. Sausages that are caressed with golden batter not imprisoned in dark yellow crispy mush. My chips today looked old, brown and tasted a little lacklustre. My sausage did not taste fresh and some of the batter around the sausage was as hard and chewy as cardboard. When I get good food I am prone to give my dish a little dance of appreciation. My take-out meal from Crown didn’t even get a little shimmy. Disappointing.

Expensive! One of the young men cooking the food had a bad chest and was constantly coughing his lungs up which is not a good advertisement for this place. If I had seen him before ordering my food, I would have walked back out and went elsewhere. Won’t be back.

Excellent cod; very fresh, and great chips; crispy and fat. Fast, friendly service. Had take-away so can’t comment on the ‘restaurant’, but definitely don’t be put off by the exterior.

This place is unassuming, and so easy to miss, even though it’s practically on the corner of Camden High Street. My flatmate reckons it’s the best chippy ever — especially their scampi and chips. I’m not so convinced about that, but I do love the fact that the counter looks like a kebab shop from the 1980s, but turn around and the ‘restaurant’, looks like a café you might be in if you were on holiday, with painted blue walls and large windows that we hope are opened in the summer.
