This is a great new addition to the area. I’ve been there about 5 times in the few months since they opened, and it’s always been delicious, fresh and friendly. I like the veggie mezze platter, but the meats are tasty too. It’s BYO too, so ends up good value.

As my other half and I wandered around firstly Clapham Common and then Balham looking for somewhere that would satisfy both of our dinner desires, we thought that maybe we were looking for the impossible. But then we found Beyrouths Balham, the second of their two restaurants. Beyrouths décor is really fantastic the walls are papered with old news papers and the lighting being made from red flex and interesting industrial looking lamps. The staircase leading down to the lower seating and toilets was constructed entirely of scaffolding. This all sounds like it could have been unwelcoming but I think it made it more appealing. First of all they let you bring your own bottle for just £1 which can never be a bad thing. Secondly they serve Lebanese food, I chose the felafel, the baba ganoush and some pastry parcels with cheese in them(I cannot for the life of me remember what they are called). Each was priced around £5 and were suitably tasty, sadly the felafel were a touch dry My partner had a mixed grill, the only draw back of the meal was that the meat was not as succulent and tasty as we had expected a Lebanese restaurant to be. The bill came to around £30 without drinks as we took our own. The meal was enjoyable and its always good to discover new places but I have experienced better tasting Lebanese for the price.

So Beyrouths has opened it’s doors in Balham and a welcome addition it is. I dined here recently with a friend on a weeknight but not surprisingly for a relatively new place in town the restaurant was full by the time we left. Walls are lined with vintage newsprint, tables are a rustic wood and scaffolding holds up the cashier and also acts as a makeshift bannister for those descending downstairs(where there is more seating). We tried the Mixed Grill a mix of chicken lamb an minced lamb with rice 13.90, The Kibbeh 4.50, Tabouleh 4.50 and Homous 3.90 I had a green lemonade(lemon and mint) while my friend ordered an Oreo milkshake. So impressed was I that I actually dropped by the next night for a takeaway, staff were super friendly once again and even offered me a complimentary green lemonade(lemon and mint) while I waited. This time round we tried the Halloumi, Ful Moudamas Spinach Sambousas and Fattoush Salad. All excellent. Only suggestion would be to have slightly louder music, it was a little hard to hear in the background. Oh and for those who can’t survive a meal without a drink, Beyrouths is a BYOB — convenient as there’s a Sainsburys /off license down the road
