Out of the country and didn’t feel like trying local food this morning. I wanted something simple, fast, hot, and quick… I got more than I bargained for today. I took the time to sit down and enjoy a relaxing meal. I ordered a bacon and egg sandwich with coffee. It was simply delicious. Felt homesick with the variety of Spanish music (rancheras, baladas, etc…) being played overhead. The customer service is friendly and professional…

Amazing chicken here at this place, beware of the the queues for lunch (although it does move very quickly!) Trust in the food as well and just get every sauce they offer with your meal, it’s addictive and perfectly goes with the chicken.
Maybe slightly more expensive than other local places too, but you get a huge amount of food here. I took the rest of mine home and had it for dinner that same evening. Favourite sides are the rice and vegetables
People also say the staff tend to be a bit blunt — they’re not really that rude, you’re more likely to get judgy eyes from the people behind you in the queue who just want you to hurry up!

I went here because of all the good reviews but was pretty disappointed. Perhaps it’s just not to my taste, but I found the food to be way too greasy, especially for lunch. It was made all the worse by the shallow pool of oil I found once I eventually made my way to the bottom of the dish. Fair play to the owners, they get two stars just for the sheer efficiency with which they run their business, but the food wasn’t for me.

Great marinated chicken. You have your choice for 2 of 4 sides from rice, potatoes, salad, & veggies. Veggies and rice was a great choice — the veggies were not soggy at all, a very good sign. Then all should do is say yes to everything else (Tabasco and their home made green sauce) and you’ll be on your way.
It felt like I was in the «Soup Nazi» episode of Seinfeld, but that made the experience even better. I’m only here for 3 weeks, but I’ll be going back!

My colleague recommended Assenheims to be THE chicken place that we had to try. As we were walking over, I was engulfed in the smell of roasted chicken — the kind you know to be slow-​cooked over simmering fire that renders the skin perfectly crispy and the meat juicy and succulent. PERFECTION.
Hence, I couldn’t even stop to take a picture — I inhaled my chicken as soon as I sat down and looked up five-​minutes later, realizing that I had been quite bad company as the last couple of minutes was an intimate meeting between me and this lovely chicken.
There was a queue when I went (around 12:30), which I deem to be a testament to the deliciousness of their chicken. But the queue moves fast, so you better be prepared to order. I believe the only thing you need to specify is potatoes, salad, or vegetables. I was taken aback at how quickly the queue moved along that I just blurted out salad but I strongly recommend rice with your chicken. Chicken this good deserves a good rice base.
That being said, the chicken is SO flavorful and plenty that I had ¹⁄₃ leftover for dinner.

One of my usual lunch haunts. In the city it’d affectionately known as just «chicken».
Whenever someone mentions fancy «chicken» for lunch, they mean the only goto chicken place in the City — Assenheims.
You get two grilled boneless chicken thighs and two sides chosen from Potatoes, salad, spicy rice or veg. Smothered in green viagra as it’s know.
Great value, tonnes of tasty protein, like Nandos but both cheaper and tastier.

This is the place to go for epic chicken.
One of the spots in the area everyone knows and loves. Crazy chicken. Horny chicken. Green chicken. It has many names. I don’t think anyone knows the actual name of this place! But we all love it.
Have the chicken.
Have tabasco.
Just say yes to everything they ask you.
Bring cash.
Good luck. You’ll thank me later.

My new favourite lunch spot in the city. Blows away all of the ubiquitous Mexican burrito places that have been popping up and serve chicken & rice box in a box i.e. chilangos, tortilla,
The chicken is cooked to perfection. I like it with lots of tobasco sauce on it. Make sure you know what you want before you get to the counter. The staff work an efficient production line system, so the queue although big, moves in no time. Massive portions and highly tasty food and great value for £7.50.

Best chicken in the square mile!!! The only issue you’ll find is that the queue is long at lunch time and staff can be «short» with you. Don’t expect a service but expect good chicken and plenty of it!

This is place is fantastic.
We call it ‘dirty’ chicken and by dirty we mean something really good and worth attaining. The chicken is blackened on the bone. the way god intended it. There is usually a long line especially after the drinking nights, but it goes fast. They have a good queuing /​ordering system.
Green sauce is a must, Tabasco sauce too. Don’t be a wimp. Get it on salad instead of rice if you want to avoid the 2pm coma.
Beats nandos 10 times out of 10.

Review: Chicken has never been so divine! Don’t expect the service to exist. Just appreciate the chicken, tabasco, rice, and the infamous Sauce that goes with it. Yes, intentionally capitalised S for Sauce — it is that amazing. It is the type of sauce that you can eat by itself it is that amazing, almost Sriracha amazing (just the amazing part, doesn’t taste like it at all), but this sauce is a green salad sauce but nice and spicy. A lot of people go for lunch, but I think it isn’t one for the light hearted. Super filling and will make you food coma. If you’re needing to stay awake in the afternoon — good luck after this! It is a place to take friends, family, and co workers for the amazingness of it.

Literally followed the delicious smell of grilled chicken into this place. I work in the area and noticed a bunch of people carrying the same bag of food with an amazing smell and ended up here.
The concept is simple, grilled chicken with rice/​salad/​vegetables/​salad and green sauce. I always go with rice and salad as my sides. They do have some other deli type items, but I’m not sure how anyone can pass up the chicken once they smell it. For me, it is A LOT of food, I typically only go here when I am very hungry.

AMAZING. Very authentic flavors and fantastic gluten free options. Headed over for lunch with some coworkers and we all sat in silence at our desks as we devoured our meals. I had a gluten free pulled beef sandwich where they used plantains to replace the bread — to die for. My coworkers had the famous chicken breast — apparently ordered the regular size which was an enormous serving. Cuban sandwich also highly recommended.
Prices are reasonable. The pulled beef sandwich was £5.75 and super filling. Queues can be long depending on when you go (sure sign of excellent food). Staff is extremely friendly as well and actually Latino! I love when I get to use my Spanish in this country.
Definitely, definitely recommend it.

Walked out of my Hotel at 8am and was hit by the most amazing food smell… I literally followed my nose down the street to the source! These guys have a marinated chicken that is to die for! Since it was breakfast I Had the Escalope chicken egg and cheese sandwich which made my eyes roll back in flavor Ecstasy! The nice guy who served me also gave me a taste of the lunch special which he says makes a line of regulars form out the door around noon. Chicken breast with a fabulous lemon, onion, celery coriander sauce… wow… I’m coming back at noon for more of this!

Great chicken and rice with some sort of special sauce. It’s not what you expect this place at all. Eveyone that works here is Latino, it has that authentic shabby feel that you expect in any real Latin American restaurant South of Mexico.
The food is good. Go after 2pm if you want to avoid the queues.

There is a reason that this place ALWAYS has a queue and that people queue up outside even in the rain!
That reason is the HUGE portions this place does.
A combination of a mound of rice&veg, rice&salad, potatoes&veg with a sh1t load of grilled chicken and their special green sauce and tobasco is why my office regularly does Assenheim’s runs during the week.
The price has recently gone up (£7.50) but I easily get two meals out of this.
This meal isnt the healthiest and I often find my veg swimming in oil and the chicken quite fatty, but it does taste so good!
If you are a) hungover b) going out drinking c) recovering from a massive gym session, then Assenheims is the place for you!

Oh yes. Give me some tabasco and roughly chopped succulent marinated in The Sauce chicken. Leave potatoes — it’s a waste of space in your belly — just indulge in chicken. The price is good, this lunch would leave you satisfied for a few hours.
I queued outside in the cold a few times — it’s that good (and I really do dislike cold).
Hats off for their marinade, green sauce and relatively fast service because demand is just huge. I would recommend going for an early lunch to avoid queuing outside.

Once again I’m just in awe at how something so simple and slightly dodgy looking can be so good.
Found out that this place was listed on one of my favourite foodie blogs, Dos Hermanos, which inspired another trip. I disagree in that the quantity of food isn’t enough for lunch. To be honest, once you’ve gone through the chicken, rice, and potatoes covered in extra tabasco and green sauce, I’m not only stuffed but halfway to dreamland!

Assenheims 56 does an amazing «Chicken and Rice» combo for lunch… I understand its avaiable as «Chicken and Veg» combo too… a real lunch time winner !! If you are after a tasty + hearty lunch… look no further ! …my favourite is the Chicken and Rice combo with tabasco and Assenheims56 mint chill special sause !! :-)
