Perfect little train station boozer, family atmosphere. I had a couple of pints at this nice little pub in Linlithgow, waiting for my return train to Edinburgh — having visited Linlithgow Palace. It’s just one very modestly proportioned room, and they don’t serve food(except nibbles). It’s a station boozer, but a good one. There are three guest ales on offer, plus the usual assortment of lagers and other drinks. Most local patrons will be sitting at the bar, chatting with the elderly owner. Since I wasn’t a local and the Scottish accents at the bar were wee heavy, I chose to sit at one of the small tables and observe the conversation. The owner is friendly and forthcoming, the beers are well maintained. The décor won’t win Platform 3 any design awards, but everything that you’ll need is there, including WCs — accessible *directly* from the bar room. It’s just that small a pub.

This is a great wee bar. It’s my new local now I live in Linlithgow. The staff are very pleasant and there’s a great atmosphere in here. Friday/Saturday nights tend to have live music and it’s a good crowd. It is only small but for some reason you still manage to fit everyone in! Deifntiely a must-try in Linlithgow!

The sort of pub that should be beside every train station, Platform 3 is so small that I have known of at least two people who genuinely believed this was a waiting room provided by First Scotrail. In reality, this is a thriving little village pub which offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere and a good spot to watch a bit of sport or enjoy some ale. Of course, many people who frequent here do so merely as they wait for a train. However, Platform 3 also has its fair share of non-commuting regulars who choose it over the town’s plethora of rival pubs. The one downside is the dark lighing which means it’s perhaps not the best spot to visit on a hot summer day.
