As far as chain coffee houses go, this one doesn’t go wrong! Its quite big inside and it has seating by the road if the weather’s nice enough. It can get really hot inside in the summer though! The staff are usually very friendly(can only think of one time when that wasn’t the case) and the drinks are always good. Not gonna-set-the-world-on fire great, but generally pretty good! I haven’t had many of the cakes but they look good and the ones I’ve had are pretty fresh so no complaints there. The toilets can be ROUGH but I guess they get a lot of people using them throughout the day so if you can hold it, its probably for the best! Otherwise no complaints at all really, nice place for a pitstop!

I generally prefer to support the independents… but Costa in Headingley is a great way to start the day, the staff here are always fab, helpful and cheerful. The place has a sort of buzz to it(or is that just the caffeine?)

A nice coffee place to sit and relax as long as it’s not too busy. The staff is very friendly and happy to answer any question you have. As the price goes I would say is the usual franchise coffee place prices. There are tables to sit outside but unfortunately there are no umbrellas to protect you from unexpected rain. As the coffee goes it’s ok. The only small problem I come across is the soup bowl you get for a cup if you ask for a large one. I like to try the specials most of the time because I like try new stuff although most of the times disappoint me. The best one I’ve tried so far was the Christmas special Black forest hot chocolate, it even made my caffeine crazy boyfriend to buy that instead of coffee. In their summer menu there is the fruit coolers. When I saw it I got a bit happy thinking I’ll get something cool and fresh but apart from the fresh milk it was just syrup and a mysterious white powder which I guess it was sugar because I when I was drinking it it was a bit crunchy. So unless you are prepared to pay a bit extra than a latte or a cappuccino and get milk with syrup flavoring I would say just don’t bother with them.

I’ve been back a few times lately, and before you chide, yes-I’d rather be in an indie coffee stop –but needs must, and it was a quick al fresco visit when the sun briefly reared its head. Frustratingly, Costa is one of the few places with full view of the afternoon rays. The staff here are always excellent, that’s the first thing to note. I’ve had plenty of friendly banter, and even compliments on my perfume(by a girl, before you go assuming otherwise!), so it turns out flattery does indeed go a long way. At least, it made me smile. Sadly though, there’s not much to shout about regarding the caffeine fix. Sure enough, I picked a latte, but you’ll find more strength in a newborn kitten and more richness in a paupers’ purse than you will in the coffee. I’ll try cappuccino next time and see if that’s better. I don’t want to have to pay for an extra shot just so I know it’s actually coffee and not warm milk. Rant over. The cakes are always pretty fresh, and the atmosphere is usually fine. I know they do live music nights on the odd occasion, which endears me, since there are few cafes which delve into live music.(Café Lento excepted.) Essentially, you’ve some great seating next to Otley road, should the weather be clement. I’m not sure how rigidly they monitor the seating, since two lads with KFC took advantage of a table as I sipped. Take a book to enjoy, and take a moment.

brilliant coffee and cakes, the perfect treat for when you’re alone, with a friend or there’s a few of you! however can get very busy and therefore spoils the atmosphere. is quite pricey too so its a nice treat not an everyday place!

Although I still heart Starbucks more than Costa, I wouldn’t ever say no to popping in here for a gingerbread latte. Perfect on wintery days! Costa is always buzzing with students and business people alike. There’s a really mixed crowd which makes this place great to sit and people watch. I don’t rate Costa for having lunch or anything heavier than a snack but their cakes and muffins are lovely and you just HAVE to have one with your coffee, hot chocolate or tea.

An excellent coffee house due to the friendliness of the staff and quality of the customers. Chilled atmosphere, people reading, people on laptops, a great place to chat with friends. The background music is excellent too. I wouldn’t let it bother you that it’s part of a coffee chain. There is something unique about Headingley Costa.

Its always nice to get an alternative to Starbucks with its million and one combinations. The coffee here is excellent and they provide enough variety. The location is great to give your tired feet a break from shopping and allows you to people watch in a comfy setting. The prices are also quite reasonable so it is well worth a visit.

This place is so new it’s not even on the Costa website yet. But it makes a nice alternative to Starbucks. The seats are comfier and the coffee is cheaper and so far I haven’t heard any inklings of them trading unfairly so I am going to stick with them.
