Steve’s Shoe Repairs & Key Cutting

Nasty, aggressive, misogynist and discriminatory re medical conditions is my considered opinion of 'Steve' of Steve's Shoe Repairs and Keycutting, 30 Otley Road, Headingley LS6 2AD. I also believe he slandered me to police, who he called and told I was a drug user (that is what they told me he had said) after I had collapsed in his shop with a serious medical condition unable to communicate and needing medical help. I have never used drugs in my life (and I had not been drinking) but this misogynist called the police, who ARRESTED ME based on what he had said about me - without him knowing me except as an occasional customer. This is serious disability discrimination, i.e. against the law, and it also seems prompted by misogyny. When I went back another day to the shop to try to collect a sweatshirt and a face mask I had lost during this episode, the blonde middle aged assistant LOCKED THE SHOP DOOR ON ME and HID IN THE BACK ROOM! Which I can prove and I would say is also discriminatory. The business does not come up at Companies House under its apparent name so 'Steve' may not even be his real first name - hence this extremely bad review. If you're female and/or have serious medical conditions AVOID THIS SHOP AT ALL COSTS. It is not acceptable to abuse someone because of their health or disabilities or because they are female but the above is what happened to me at this dreadful place. I am investigating legal action for both the discrimination and what seems to have been slander, and I consider 'Steve' or his assistant may have effectively also stolen my missing sweatshirt and face mask by refusing to let me in to the shop when I returned to ask about those items. If anyone else has has had bad experiences at Steve's Shoe Repairs & Keycutting please add your own reviews - in my opinion he deserves to be boycotted.

Rang up the other day to try and get the buckle fixed on my shoes. Really upset that they are ruined. I rang Steve’s shoe repairs asking if I could come in and he could look at my shoes to see if they could be fixed. However, he was totally and utterly rude on the phone and told me that he had ‘too much business’ and could not fix my shoes. I was never offered an alternative to come later in the week, instead I was bluntly hung up on. At no point was I expecting them to fixed on that day — all I wanted was a price and would have been happy to leave them for even a week if he could have fixed them. I am outraged that a paying customer would be treated this way!!! My advice, avoid this place — obviously has little care and consideration for potential customers and will be wondering why they are out of business when people stop going.

Lovely warm greeting, swift service and will even do my a ‘job-​lot’ deal for re-​heeling my shoes and boots so will definitely be back.

Good quality, friendly, well valued service. They do and sell all sorts. If you want a key cutting (no matter what sort), shoes cobbling, buying a zippo or a wallet these are your guys! A nice little family run business that aren’t out to rip you off. I’ve had quite a few keys from here and have never had a problem with one.

I’ve been back several times now, to bring new life to old shoes, and I have to say that these chaps are fantastic. En route to town, I dropped in my solid favourite heels to be fixed up, and was greeted by the ever friendly and welcoming guys that man the shop. I’m sure one of them must be Steve, and one day I might venture to ask which one, but on this occasion I wasn’t so brave as to make introductions.
It costs just over a fiver to get re-​heeling done, and I’ve never been in without being able to collect the shoes about 30 minutes later. Basically, it gives you enough time to pop off for a coffee, take in the world, and pop back again before going about your day. Of course, if you need keys cut, and the various other cobbler odd jobs, they’re ready to provide good service for that too.
They’re always smiling, they’re cheap and cheerful, they’re fantastic and I’ve them to thank for not having to buy new shoes. It’s always a pleasure. Cash only, but as Hannah says, there’s a cash machine right next door!

Initially I wasn’t aware that ‘Steve’s’ was a cobblers, aswell as a key-​cutting place.
I’d got a real bargain when I bought some really great suede and leather ankle boots for £20, in a sale last year, that had been knocked down from £70…and ‘cos I Loved them so much… had been wearing them a heck of alot! I hadn’t realised that I’d worn the heel down past the leather, until one day when they started to make a loud clonking noise when I walked in them!
Anyway.I took them into Steve’s, asking whether they could ‘save them’! He (Steve), came out from behind the back, and took a look at them, and said he would have to build the leather heel back up, and then heel them, and they’d be fine! I was so relieved! :o)…he said they’d be ready the following day, and to call in around 1.00pm.and also that if I wasn’t happy with them, he would give me my money back!
The following day, I collected them, and I was well impressed! The heels looked as good as new! :o)…Steve and his assistant. were both very friendly and polite… and I feel that it was money well spent! I’d recommend anybody to go there!

«Nowt’s too far gone in this business!» said the guy at the counter, when I asked if my (frankly knackered) boots were too far gone to be re-​soled. And sure enough, for £17.50 they gave them shiny new soles and built up the heels. They told me to come back in the afternoon of the following day, but when I popped my head in first thing in the morning they were already waiting for me — brilliant!
PS take cash — they don’t take cards. There’s a cash machine next door though so no great issue there.

Steve’s Shoe Repairs and Key Cutting stands out from the trendy bars, café and trinket shops along Headingley’s main strip! I had never paid much attention to Steve’s until last year when I needed to get keys cut! It’s bright yellow exterior had stayed in my head and I headed there straight away to get my spare key.
The shop is small and ran by a very friendly, 60 odd, bearded Yorkshire man (who one can only presume is Steve)! He was extremely friendly and made me giggle by giving me a cheeky compliment! Made my day a little!
Nevertheless my happy mood was slightly shattered by the price of the key. Surley £5 isn’t how much it costs to cut a key?!
Forgetting the price and service was quick and the staff very friendly adding a piece of local history to the quickly modernising main road. The location is perfect for me as it is within walking distance and saves you walking all the way into the city to get a key cut in the market! (however the market offering a key cutting service of half the price!)
It is a quick, convenient and friendly service even if it is a little too pricey!

Steve’s is probably the most traditional business in the whole of Headingley — amidst a sea of student pubs, bars and modern delis, it stands proud, providing ye olde cobbling and keycutting services for anyone who so desires.
The keycutting services are as fast as they are cheap (very) and on the two occasions I’ve needed a key cut here, I’ve had no problems with the finished product working in my doors.
Can’t say I’ve ever needed to have a shoe cobbled though. I’m a firm believer in the if-a-shoe’s-broke-bin-it school of thought, so I can’t comment on Steve’s shoe skills, but I’d wager they’re as professional as his key-​cutting skills are.
