Friendly Store

A strange phenomenon I’ve noted recently is the number of off licenses which have started to sell gloves.
Perhaps it’s just me, but quite why proprietors of all that is bad for you have suddenly developed this concern for the well being of your hands as opposed to any other part of your body is baffling.
And I don’t like it. If I’m buying alcohol I don’t want reminded that I should be looking after myself and I expect it’s the same for smokers. «I’ll have a bottle of Buckfast, 20 Benson and, eh, actually aye gies a pair of they neon gloves». No, I don’t think so.
I want a gruff server, little chat and plenty of change. Thankfully the Friendly Store in Dumbarton Road is one of the least appropriately-​named places I’ve visited for a carry out and fulfills its duty with little fuss.
With frequent special offers, it’s one of the cheapest in the area and offers a good selection of beers, spirits and wines, coupled with absolutely no selection of winter wear.

Friendly Stores is a funny little shop on Dumbarton Road, just next to the junction with Byres Road.
Although I would query the name a little, overall Friendly Stores is a useful little shop. When we went in, the man behind the counter was listening to his iPod and pretty much ignored us — which is why I wasn’t so sure on the «friendly» part.
Truth be told, the shop is a little grotty, but on closer inspection they have quite a wide range of wines and beers — all at very good prices. For instance, you can buy eight bottles of Leffe for £5.99, and you can’t get better than that.
Besides the off-​sales, in Friendly Stores you’ll find a selection of sweets, chocolates and crisps, as well as soft drinks. If it’s something like this you’re after though — it might be a better bet to go to the newsagents two doors down.

a nice little off-​sales on dumbarton road — not the greatest selection, but it’s mom+pop run, and the proprietor is so pleasant it’s worth buying your booze for the nights preamble here than anywhere else in range!
