Having been to chocolatte on a regular basis we finally threw in the towel Mainly because of a lack of consistency and varying quality, even with the same product. On some occasions they would try and palm of overlooked or burnt food, bagels in particular and we have had mouldy bagels and tangy soup, it’s no doubt down to keeping produce over the quiet weekdays and serving them when we come in on a Saturday. Staff are polite enough, music sometimes bizarre, a medley of Celine Dion and Whitney Houston. Overall average.

This is a funny place for me as it’s never one that I’d go out my way to hit, but I still kinda like when I get there. Kinda like exercise. Not really to keen to do it, but definitely appreciate it afterwards. The vibe in here is soo sunday afternoon, that it’s just silly. Walk in on a Thursday morning and it just feels like Sunday… weird. The kinda place where a latte, piece of cake and a newspaper just feels right. Staff are always friendly and whilst not super fast, are as efficient and laid back as the vibe in here. It’s worthy of a visit. But like I say, just bring a paper or book!

Oooohh Choco-latte, I like you a-latte. Our mates just live around the corner from this wee bombass café with a punny name. We often find ourselves sneaking into this rustic hideaway for a quick bite and a cuppa. The food is fresh and tasty, and at a reasonable price. The coffee isn’t too bad either. The atmosphere is laidback and casual, where you can easily spend an afternoon here if you wanted to. The guys behind the counter are friendly as well. If you’re wandering along GWR or Byers Road, and are in need of a quick fix, Choco-latte is always a good standby.

There is a worrying lack of pun based shop names in Glasgow so this friendly little corner café gets brownie points just for that. It’s more than a clever name though. There’s a real family atmosphere to the place, and the staff have a great warm and friendly rapport with their patrons. Not being a fan of chocolate I can only comment on the latte part which was great. My drinking companion tells me enthusiastically that the eponymous Chocco Latte was amazing. You can trust her, she has impeccable taste. If you’re thinking of a snack, you can’t go far wrong with the bacon and cream cheese bagel. It’s a perfect lazy afternoon joint.

I used to live across the street from Choco-Latte as a third year student, and despite being of an age and degree of social anxiety where sitting alone in cafes still bothered me, I found on many, many occasions that I had to get over my fears to come in here. It was all for their bacon and maple syrup waffles, an I’d gladly walk over hot coals to get my greedy face in about them again. Tremendous, as is the french toast. Thanks then have to go to the people at Choco-Latte, for ridding me of chronic self-awareness as well a providing the best breakfast ever.

Friendly, cheap, and with a good selection of juices and snacks for kids, which is always a relief when you find only crisps and ribena everywhere else. Do café owners expect that kids gorge on junk all the time? I like how the layout is such that you’re below street level too — you can watch passer-by’s shoes — which is always fun. But not so fun when the kid you look after every now and then decides to make a climb for it and dashes out the open window onto the street — maybe he was off to find some wotsits.

Choco-latte has saved my face several times now. Right opposite Oakfield Avenue, it’s the best place to get an early morning coffee before the day begins at Uni. During my exam period, I pretty much lived on their coffee — it’s cheap, the staff are friendly(I went there so often, and spoke/moaned about exams, that on the day of my final exam, they gave me a free coffee! This was probably a parting«we are doing this so you won’t ever come back and moan» coffee, but I still took it!), and best of all, it’s closer than you think to the uni, which is really a godsend. They also have cakes and usual coffeehouse type food… mmm… So if you’re like me and leave waking up till the last possible minute(9am lectures… ppffft) and you need a decent coffee to send you on your way, this is the place.
