Stumbled across this bar last night, after dinner at the clifton sausage, and stopped in for a couple of drinks. They do a really good Hendricks, with tonic and cucumber, I also had a cocktail with gin, elderflower and ginger, which was lovely! I would say the staff weren’t the most jovial of teams, but I suppose it can be difficult to laugh and joke when it’s so busy. Would definitely go back.

Clifton Village is home to several of Bristol’s most aesthetically appealing pubs. They stick to the central tenets of the traditional pub, but spice it up with a few modern touches. The Mall is one such of these pubs, and in my opinion one of the most appealing. The glass front suggests that this is a one room only space. However, it leads on to a rabbit warren of seating areas round the back, spilling out onto a lovely courtyard which is heated in winter. The food is the usual, mostly British fare of most pubs — burgers, steak, fish and chips or lasagne. What sets The Mall apart however is the panache with which it is executed. They also offer a range of light bites and there are full roasts on Sundays. Lit by quirky Morroccan lamps, The Mall is one of the cosiest places to spend an evening in Bristol, or on a summer’s day one of the most relaxed to lounge in the beer garden. It has a range of excellent European beers on draught and most weeknights offer different entertainment — from open mic nights, to wine clubs to acoustic concerts.

I love this pub. It is full of ra-ra sloanes for sure but it has a great atmos. They also do a really fun New Year’s Eve party. The year I went we dressed as animals, it didn’t get horribly packed(there were even places to sit if you got there early enough!) and the bar staff were great. The Mall is nicest and cosiest in the upstairs bar but the huge downstairs bar is a great place to meet friends. Last time I was there they were also doing a brilliant ciderfest with 14 guest ciders. They do nibbles and bigger bites throughout the day which, although pretty standard pub fare, are cheap for Clifton. It’s also in a great spot on the corner, overlooking the Downs.

Big big fan. There is something truly awesome about The Mall. When you first walk in there you might initially think that it is a very small pub, that’s until you walk down the stairs and find the second bar. The pub is deceivingly large. I am a huge fen of the enormous range of drinks they have on sale here. All the ciders you can imagine and on top of that they have weisbier-swiss genius distilled for a tap. Big fan.

The Mall is a great traditional pub located at the top of the village of Clifton, just on the corner. As with any good pub, they serve food throughout the day and drinks are fairly reasonably priced! Undoubtedly the best thing about this pub is its garden, and in the summer months it is much enjoyed by residents and visitors alike — and for the winter months they have outdoor heaters which are brilliant! The garden is very attractive, with foliage decorating the garden walls and a view out onto the down’s at the top of Clifton — there is also the potential to seat a fairly large amount of people, there are tables just up on another level as well which belong to the pub. The inside of the pub is very welcoming and has a cosy feel — despite being quite a large pub! There are two different levels, and two different bars, which is always handy at peak times and also makes it great for groups! I would recommend this pub to anyone who fancies trying somewhere new in Bristol — and the surrounding area of Clifton is a great place to have a wonder if you have time on your hands!

The Mall must be the envy of all land owners, pub owners, other property and business owners. I mean wow, what a location. Perfectly positioned on the top corner of Clifton village, you have a lovely view of the green park area that surrounds the Clifton Suspension bridge, and making The Mall the first point of call on your back to town from taking a walk around the bridge. Although owned by the same company as The Clifton and being about five minutes away from its ‘sister’ pub, these are very different places to drink and socialise. The Mall is much better in the summer, with huge windows and lovely garden so you can always get some natural light. But similarly to The Clifton, The Mall has an amazing bar with a great choice of beers and wines. I have quite high expectations when it comes to my roast dinners(Bristol sets high standards in this department) but I was really pleasantly surprised by The Mall’s roast it was delicious, the meat was so tasty. Try the roast chicken! If you were going to start a pub/bar crawl or long evening out(to put it another way) you should start here because, basically, wherever you go from here is downhill! So you can literally roll back into town. Grab yourself a comfy sofa and a big table and spend the day or evening here with your mates. Make sure you say hi to Wozzy! The best landlord in town and usually with the biggest trousers.

This place is great. We stopped in on the way back from walking over the Clifton Bridge on a sunny afternoon and were in luck since on Sunday, they have deals on wine by the bottle. We imbibed and then the long couch type seating with plenty of pillows by the front window enticed us to chill out for a while. We stepped over a guy hunched over his laptop and a girl reading a book with her shoes off to grab a spot. On our other side was a group of about 4 friends hunkered around a tiny table. It all made for a friendly and cozy atmosphere. We didn’t eat anything but the ladies next to us seemed to really enjoy their french fries. Next time I’ll try the snackage. The music was very cool, sort of indie-pop type stuff. I’ll be back with my book during the week sometime soon! I hear that there is a basement so I’ll have to check that out as well. I’d also be curious to see what its like on a Friday or Saturday night. Sunday early evening was tops though.

A lot of the pubs in Clifton Village can get pretty rammed, and what makes The Mall an attractive proposition is the large basement which has plenty of room, its own bar and a table football table. This means you’re more likely to get a seat than elsewhere, though it can still take ages to get served at the bar. The range of drinks is pretty good, with real ales, continental lagers and proper ciders, though you’ll have to fight past a vast army of students to get your hands on one.

Next to where the Downs(an area of parkland close to the Clifton Suspension Bridge) begins, this pub is an unassuming place. A relief after some of the stridently fashionable places you will find round Clifton. It’s deceptively large, with a cavernous basement, so don’t think its full if you can’t see seats in the front window. The basement itself is a bit of a treat. There’s loads of natural light and being away from the road makes you feel like your just in somebodies lounge. Go here on a Sunday morning to pretend that you afford a hundred square metre lounge. Comfortable and easy are the first two words that come to mind when I think of The Mall. Go here for an unstressful drink or maybe some space to think.

Nice service & staff, comfortable, good selection of beers. They had run out of lots of ales and food — but i guess it had been a busy bank holiday Monday. I ordered Macaroni cheese which was good for a credit crunching £5. Always nice to walk into a pub that serves Leffe too.

A pretty good pub with a good choice of beers and plenty of seating. Ive not eaten here, but I imagine its good food. The pub quiz on Thursdays is good fun.
