I’m quite surprised at how much I like The Kings Arms. It’s not really the kind of place that tickles my fancy. It’s pretty up market, trendy and polished! And I normally go for a more gritty, rough around the edges kind of bar. But it has a really nice chilled ambiance and the drinks are immense! I’ve not eaten here for some time, so I wont review the food. But I have heard great things about it. The Kings Arms is split over two levels and while it is stylish and classy, it still manages to retain the ‘proper’ pub vibe. As well as having a decent draught selection, they do some amazing cocktails and make some of their own fruity mixers, which is a nice touch. The best part of The Kings Arms is the rooftop terrace area, which there is a real shortage of in Bristol. There’s only a few tables but it is so nice to sit there on a nice summers day and have some tapas and cocktails. I’ll try the food again soon and update my review!

A ‘pubby’ pub with style and class. My favourite of its kind on Whiteladies Road. The King’s Arms has everything you need; tea and cake in the day, boozy treats from ales to cocktails, pub grub and tapas, and very stylish but relaxed décor and artwork around the place — topped off with a spiral staircase! All ages are welcome(within the law) and the owner’s dogs are often wandering around. I don’t particularly like dogs but they don’t cause any offence! They play some of the big sports games on a projector but I wouldn’t say it was a particularly sporty pub. You can also hire some of it out for private parties. And as if that wasn’t enough amazingness — there’s an absolute peach of a sun-trapping roof terrace out the back that feels a bit like you’re on holiday!

Kings Arms is one of my favorite pub. Going there for lunch with their 241 offer on burgers or going for few drinks with friends, I must say, I always had great time there.

The King’s Arms may have had more name changes than J-lo and P-Diddy combined, but that does not stop it from being a great pub. It seems too traditional a name to settle on for a gastro-pub with a table tennis table, luxurious seating and a very continental drinks selection, but it is clear that recent management has encouraged a return to more traditional food. Just two days ago they reintroduced two-for-one burgers at lunch time. They have a large space upstairs for comedy and open mic nights, and a beautiful terrace. I have also rarely had more fun than when playing drunken table tennis!

This pub has had yet another make-over! ‘The King’s Arms’ formerly The Black Bear, is full of original features and fittings alongside lots of comfy sofas and chairs creating a relaxed atmosphere. The menu offered a wide variety of foods from your pub classics; burger /fish and chips, to pasta with parmesan and asparagus. They also had a tapas bar if you fancied a lighter meal or snacks. We shared a plate of tapas which was full to the brim with delicious tapas from prawns to mini stuffed peppers. We had this alongside some bread with a large slab of butter and a well dressed green salad. This was followed with a salmon fishcake served with tartar sauce and spinach. The fishcake was lovely and fluffy and there was no skimping on the sauce! All in all a very relaxed and enjoyable evening, with good food, very reasonably priced wine and reliable staff.

It’s surprisingly hard to find a decent place to drink on Whiteladies Road so I’m eternally grateful to The King’s Arms. This friendly, welcoming gastropub serves tasty dishes and a wide range of wines, ales and spirits. The crowd ranges from older couples to groups of friends — so it’s the sort of place which is great any time of day, for any type of person. A reliably fun drinking hole for locals to Clifton Village.

I like it. According to their website: «Nowhere else will you find such an ideal venue for whatever mood you are in at any time of day.» Not the catchiest catch-phrase but a great pub nonetheless. With a beautiful interior and cheap drinks for the quality of the pub, the Kings Arms is a great place to go out on Whiteladies road. They have a nice selection of dishes on the menu, the prices are affordable but certainly not cheap. Don’t miss their occasional liv music nights, the regular Monday night open mic dancing aplenty!

This pub has changed hands a few times over the last few years. In its newest incarnation its called the Kings Arms. It’s a really quirky space which I’m quite a fan of — you walk in to the first bar, which is quite small, but up a flight of stairs to the left there’s a large seating area with sofas and tables, whilst to the right theres a unique spiral staircase that goes up to the main bar on the first floor. Above this there’s a further mezzanine which hosts a few more sofas and some pool tables. It’s very plushly decorated nowadays, with comfy seats, warm colours and regal lamps scattered around the place. It’s surprisingly big compared to the impression that’s received walking into the first bar, and in fact stretches back further on the first level through a curtain for stage area which opens up when they have live music or comedy on. It’s little bit pricey, especially for food, but it’s a really good pub and worth the money.

This place has been through many incarnations over the last decade — some I remember include Bohemia, Stark and Babushka — but you’ll probably know it best as that really big pub at the top of Whiteladies Road. The layout is much the same as it ever was, with the multi-level effect meaning it retains a decent atmosphere despite it size and that it can be many things to many people at different times of the day(this is probably the only Bristol pub I know that boasts a table tennis table). It now eschews previous gastro-pub pretensions with a focus on simple sandwiches and soups, and there’s more of an emphasis on free live music and comedy. A perrenial stalwart of the local scene whatever the name, this remains one of the best pubs in the area.

I like this pub. The bonus is it is not very easy to find, so it doesn’t get as busy as the other pubs in High Kingsdown. It is particularly good for sporting events as it is not as crowded. The food is good and reasonably priced
