So I’ve been back, same great impression, this time enhanced by the owner introducing himself, his wife, their daughter, a friend, and the bar maid. Hard to see how you could feel more appreciated as a guest. Interesting beers like last time(and as usual, I am certain): I tried the ultra-bitter Boomslang Brown from New Bristol Brewery but cowardly settled for a pint of Fallen Tree from Twisted Oak. If you love beer and visit Bristol, I advise you to visit here.

Wonderful oasis in the middle of Bristol. Afraid to rate this pub in case you go and spoil it. Great welcome and real ale too. If you need to chill in Bristol this is the place. Boules and beer… what else do you need?

Fish, Turtles & Beer. I love that combination as it is! They have almost as many beers as they do turtles and it would be equally as unfair to pick out favourite. I love them all(*hic* you’re my best mate you are *hic*) Besides the wildlife and the beerlife this is actually a comfortable, proper pub!

A lovely little pub, tucked away close to Temple Meads station, with an excellent selection of real ales and a friendly welcome. You’ll never find the Cornubia unless you’re either lost or looking for it — Temple Street, these days, is almost a back street, off on the right as you walk from Temple Meads down Victoria Street to the centre. The Cornubia itself is set back from the road, hidden by one of the ubiquitous modern office blocks that populate the area. The pub used to be the hospitality suite of the nearby(and now defunct) Courage Bristol brewery. The building dates from 1783 and has been a pub since the mid 19th century. New landlords took over the pub earlier in the year, hailing from Kent, where their pub previously won CAMRA’s Pub of the Year. The pub exterior is a well preserved example of Georgian architecture, in stark contrast to its surroundings. Inside, there is a long bar with a separate room off on the left, with some nice original fittings. The walls are covered with a slowly growing collection of pub clips(or are they beer mats?) of the wide and interesting range of real ales they sell — there are seven pumps — as well as ciders from the barrel. The beers on my visit were beautifully kept, and included Glastonbury’s ‘Black as yer hat’(4.5%), Slater’s ‘Why not?’(3.8%) and Forge Brewery’s ‘Litehouse’(4.3%). They also serve traditional home-made pub food food during the day, in generous portions. Worth looking out for, but beware that, because of the location, opening hours are very restricted at weekends — it’s best visited during weekdays.

I thought the Cornubia was an urban myth. Literally. Everyone told me how amazing this little pub was, how it was a really quaint little indie den hidden in the back streets of Bristol so that’s the urban bit covered but seriously, it took me ages to find this place(hence the myth bit). Then I met a friend who know exactly where it was and who took me there. It’s kind of in the middle of a building site on the back roads between Victoria Street and Temple Way. That’s all the help you’re going to get from me I’m afraid. Anyway, this is one of the few pubs I feel 100 per cent comfortable sitting in on my own. They have all the local newspapers, they play Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave and the staff are über friendly and chatty. They had absolutely no problem with me sat there for an hour nursing one cup of coffee while I waited for a friend. I love this pub.

another hidden Gem of a pub. I was impressed with the landlords snowman last time I was here. Tried all five beers and not a bad word to say about any of them. the music supplyed by a record player and large selection of Vinyl was amazing. Another friendly pub in bristol that deserves a visit.

Don’t let the appearence fool you, this pub is tucked away in a bizzare location and from the outside looks to be nothing special. However, probabley due to the fact that most people don’t know it’s thier, it has a fantastic vibe. You get a feeling you belong thier as soon as you walk in(maybe they are just pleased to see some customers, and for a few moments you feel you have escaped the city. For you bargain hunters out there you can get a £1.50 Spaghetti Bolognese on a monday between 12 – 3.30pm and 4.30−11pm!, you could when I visited anyway(monday 18th January 2010) This pub is also a great place to pop to if your heading to temple meads from the city centre for a long train journey.(I can personally recomend this!) if you have a few hours to waste come and sit in the warmth, get yourself a pint, a paper and bob’s your uncle!(don’t miss your train though!)

Tucked away and hidden by some modern office buildings, The Cornubia is an unusually placed traditional ale pub that is worth a visit if you happen to be in that area(not sure why you would be unless you work round there). It has recently been taken over and under new management there seems to be more of an emphasis on food(which is good in my book). I went there for a Sunday roast not too long ago and being a bit of a stickler for my Sunday roasts in pubs, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the beef and the roast potatoes(these being the two key ingredients for me). The staff were very friendly and asked if we enjoyed our meals, the atmosphere was warm and cosy and they had more than a decent selection of ales on tap.

Really excellent beer from ‘The Hidden Brewery’ — a good selection(typically 4 – 5) ales and 2 or more ciders on offer too. Apparently, they also sell lager stuff, but I’ve never tried it… It can be mighty cosy in the bar, Friday 5−7pm for example, but as the other reviewers have said, the atmosphere in here — coupled with the excellent ales, makes this a minor inconvenience.

A traditional pub frequented by local office folk, The Cornubia is a nice little place that you may well be unaware of unless you work in one of the nearby offices(it sits around the back of Princess Victoria Street). The main attraction is the massive seated area that sits out the front, though as it faces onto a car park and a road, it’s not the most beautiful spot in the road. The interior is twee with beard stroking real ales drinkers crammed into this intimate space. There’s also a decent roast on Sundays and a nice ‘local’ feel despite the central location. Wear a fleece, walking boots and some slightly erratic facial hair if you want to really fit in.

Went today for the first time for the Sunday lunch. The location is a bit hard to find and out of the way, and it’s a surprise to see the lovely old building nestled among the modern structures. It has loads of character inside and out. There is an L shaped bar, and seating in both sections. We didn’t go upstairs, but there was a sign advertising a private meeting room. No games or television, but there was some music playing softly in the main room. The staff were very friendly and the chef made sure we were happy with our meals. Due to being under new management, the Sunday menu is limited with one vegetarian option and one meat option, and you should book in advance if in a group so everyone is served at the same time. The food was very good and there was a fine selection of beers and ales to go with the meals(those with hangovers stuck to the non-alcoholic options). The pub has a variety of games and books to entertain those who want to amuse themselves whilst having a few pints. I do wish the fire had been lit to make it even cozier. It got a big thumbs-up from our group(9 of us) and we plan on going back soon.

The Cornubia is a small old fashioned real ale pub. I had food at the Cornubia recently. Its under new management and the people who have taken it over were friendly. There was a good choice of unusual brands of beer and other drinks. They do food at lunch time and I had a nice freshly made cheese salad bagette. There is a lot of building going on around the Cornubia at the moment and the pub is a tucked out of the way, I think its probably lost out on customers in the past as its off the beaten track.

This is a lovely pub, tucked out of the way opposite the Fire Station in Bristol. It has a decent selection of beers on tap, which change on a regular basis, as well as a good range of bottled beers. Lovely service from the bar staff, and the clientele tend to be friendly and easy-going, if a little on the mature side. On a good day you’ll find some tasty pies and pasties available. This is a favourite of the local office workers(of which there are many). However you may well find that on a Tuesday night, when there’s a folk session in full swing, it’s easy to find a quiet table and elbow room. The pub also has picnic benches outside if you choose to watch the fire engines.
