The unique pub décor increases the appeal of this pub greatly. It was no surprise to learn that the pub is listed on the national inventory. The Victorian screen that divided up drinking areas was particularly unusual. I’m not really an expert at describing such pub interiors, but luckily someone has already taken care of that( ) Beerwise, there was a selection. but a fairly uninspired one, beyond the Butcombe Gold and the beer was quite expensive by local standards. So seriously worth a visit but not a place to try the ‘do you come here often’ line on me.

There are quite a few good pubs in Bristol. But to get really good ones, Clifton is the place. This is one of the(very) few excellent pubs in the city. Don’t miss it!

It may be small, but don’t be fooled — this teeny tiny pub on Victoria Street is easily the best pub in Bristol. Situated outside of the hustle and bustle of the city centre, the kind of crowd you’ll find here is the one that loves a descent pint of beer and an evening spent with friends. It can be quite difficult to get a seat here, so it’s not a great place to take someone who hates standing with a drink. The King’s Head will give you a little slice of history and take you back to a time when not every pub was a chain, and when reasonable prices weren’t a rarity.

One of the best pubs Bristol has to offer. Its off the beaten track a little when it comes to pub crawls but I think that’s a good thing. It means it you won’t see a hyped up Fresher your entire night! Wooohooo! The Kings Head is small, but perfectly formed. Its cute and quaint and just plain wonderful! There is so much character and the sense of Ye Olde English about it. It’s probably not a place to go if there is more than 5 of you as you will struggle to all find a seat, but a good night out for a couple of close friends. I haven’t tried the food, but it looks like good, hearty British food which is always a winner.

A small piece of living heritage, this Bristol pub has been around for yonks. Small but perfectly formed is a cliché I throw around a bit too much but it’s appropriate here. The pub is both really quite small(you couldn’t fit more than twenty here I would have thought, and that would be at a massive squash) and a very pleasing pub in all respects. So here why it’s perfectly formed. It’s very pretty, with lots of original features, such as shoulder height screens enclosing little booths which allow you to enjoy a private drink with friends. They’re keen real ale drinkers without being snobs about it and have a good sized range for somewhere else. Most importantly it’s wonderfully friendly, with a proper locals atmosphere to it. The Kings Head is a lovely little traditional boozer. Come here for a good pint and a little shelter from the modern world.

Possibly the smallest pub in Bristol, a close runner with the Bag O Nails anyway. You step into the bar area which has about five stools, which please note has real ale lovingly looked after by the landlord. Then just behind that is a snug — you have to walk all the way round to get into it — which seats about 12. Then the toilets and then that’s it! My boyfriend goes here once a week at lunchtime for ‘an important meeting’. Their ale is always very good, and they have a menu to fit including a creation called flat hat — a ginormous yorskhire pudding filled with mince topped with cheese. Now if your arteries aren’t screaming NOOOOOOOO at this point then this pub is for you! Once you’ve been a few times the owners will recognise you and are always friendly. It may have the feeling of the western when you first walk in here — you know, all goes quiet, someone collapses on a piano — but there isn’t room for a piano and they’ve just gone quiet because odds are they thought they would know you as it has such a loyal customer base.
