Just off the Clifton Triangle, Flying Saucers is traditional pottery painting café with a twist — an alien theme of course. The purple and green walls are complimented by aliens in the windows and the downstairs party area provides a nice homage to outer space. I came here looking for a unique present for a friend and couldn’t believe how easy it was to revert back to childhood, as I carefully picked a teapot from the shelf and promptly spent the next five hours painting it. As I was there I saw a kids party come and go, some women out on a hen weekend and a couple sat next to me, trying to convince their baby daughter to allow her feet to be dipped in paint and placed on a dinner plate. For the price of £5, plus the cost of whatever you choose to decorate, Flying Saucers makes for a fun, quirky day out that makes a nice change from the norm. Suitable for kids, families and adults alike, this shop caters for large groups and can cater kids parties and offer group discounts. The staff are friendly and even give encouragement when they see a design they like, which provides a nice ego boost when you haven’t picked u a paintbrush in years. Firing can take a few days depending on when you visit and how much space there is in the kiln so you won’t be able to leave with your work of art the same day.

If there’s a budding artist/sculptor/mess-maker inside of you bursting to break free Flying Saucers is the place to do it. This pottery café gives you the chance to pick some porcelain and customise it your way. I, having very little artistic ability, was absolutely rubbish at this but my friend’s children adored getting creative and making their mark. I’m happy that places like Flying Saucers exist in our media obsessed and technological world as it gives Bristolian’s the chance to have some good old fashioned family fun. Inexpensive at £5 per head(plus the cost of whatever you choose to decorate). Check out their website for children and adult party ideas.
