Annoying name, annoying place. If any bar is going to call itself Eton, it really ought to be in Eton, or at least very posh — but the Eton bar on Baldwin Street is clearly neither of these things. Generally the place looks empty, cold, and slightly depressing. Nothing about it draws me inside — and I’ve only stepped inside under duress. Overall, it was exactly as I’d expected, but the staff were friendlier than I’d expected and I felt a bit sorry for them having to work in a place with so little atmosphere. Perhaps I’ve not seen the place at its best, but I can’t see me going back there to give it a second shot: even in the middle of a Saturday night I’ve often seen it looking pretty dead.

A pretty boring bar to be honest and there’s better places around, however if you’re not too fussed about where you go for a relatively cheap pint then I guess it serves a purpose. One thing I would say is that it’s pretty quiet during the week, and at weekends if there is a queue then I would probably say it’s not worth the wait — head around the corner instead to O’Neils or Revolution! The bar itself is fairly average in size, but there’s just nothing special to it and in my opinion there’s always something missing in the atmosphere. Eton is meant to be an improvement from the Stonehouse which is was renovated from, but instead in my opinion it hasn’t made a positive change and doesn’t particularly impress. I probably wouldn’t make much effort to go back to this bar.

I can’t help thinking of Eton college when I think of this place and the various princes and rich boys who attend such a place. In a way, this is sort of feel Eton are going for, but, in my humble opinion, is one of those places that attracts more wannabes than actual cool people. I think I might prefer this spot earlier on in the evening, perhaps for a spot of well priced food before going onto the main attraction, I think I’d feel a bit sad if I had to stay here all night. Still, it does bring in lots of well dressed men and ladies…

This is a pretty good venue, the place needs a bit more time I feel to warm to it but if you head in with some friends it’s got a great atmosphere and the staff work really har to be acomidating. There is definatley a trendy feel in the venue, good for all the young bristolians. The food is good, and if your looking for a nice spot of bruch or a more substantial Sunday dinner then it can cater for all tastes, shapes and sizes, chololate pud was especially good, but then it would have to take something(or someone!) pretty special to make a bad chocolate pudding! I’ve been on a Friday and Saturday nights(not one after the other I would just like to say!) and I got the impression that Fridays have a better vibe… although that might have just been because the people who were there on saturday didn’t bring so much ‘Vibe’.

On Baldwin Street, where Stonehouse used to be, a slightly makeshift tarpaulin with the word ‘Eton’ is tied over the sign. The new place isn’t much different with the old, another lofty and seemingly trendy bar at the bottom of town on the way to the Bristol Bridge. The staff in here are friendly, and up for a bit of banter while you enjoy your pint; the prices aren’t too bad either. Not really a nightlife hot spot, but a good place to visit on the way to or from the train station or that part of town,
