This might just be my new favourite café/bar/hang-out in the centre of Bristol. I’ve not walked into a place and felt so welcomed in a long time. The owners and staff are absolutely lovely. I saw a 5 star review pop up on Unilocal about this new pop up café/bar/restaurant, Bar Buvette, so I headed straight down the next day to check it out. It is in a building that used to be a art shop, and as I used to work just across the road and pass it every day, it took a little while to get my round the fact that it was now a bar. The hand written black boards outside saying ‘pop-up bar’ were a dead give away, though! I walked in to one of the warmest welcome I’ve had in, well, actually, I don’t think I’ve ever been welcomed so warmly to a bar. I ordered a coffee and soon found myself sat with the lady owner chatting about the bar, their background and their passion for great wines and cheese — passions I definitely have in common. The guy owner was also as welcoming and interesting and soon I had forgotten what I was there for — coffee! And great coffee it was! Unfortunately it was just a bit too early(even for me) for me to sample their wine, but I’ll definitely be back to try it. They’re hopefully doing a wine and cheese tasting evening in January, so I’ll be there for sure. The food menu is cheese and more cheese; toasties, cheese boards and cheese with bread(from Harts Bakery) I was actually really pleasantly surprised to hear some good upbeat music, which is a rarity with these types of places. But it really added to the atmosphere. I’ve got a lot of love for Bar Buvette already and the owners will make this place a real success. Fingers crossed they get their permeant license to stick around longer than the end of January.

Currently just a pop up where the old Photographique shop used to be on Baldwin Street, Bar Buvette is definitely worthy of a permanent license(they’re applying for one as we speak so fingers crossed!) Serving a great range of interesting organic wines and artisan cheeses, charcuterie and without a doubt the best damn cheese toastie I’ve ever eaten, they’re a perfect spot for a Friday lunch or a glass of wine after work. They’re there until the end of January so get down there sharpish!
