I just cannot fault the Queen’s Arms! Whenever I have been here I have had a great night, and when I have friends that come to visit Brighton, you can bet that I will take them there on a Saturday night for Karaōke. Yes it is a well known gay venue, however once you step inside it has a welcoming vibe to everybody! Small and cosy inside, you can expect to rub shoulder with people from all walks of life. The staff are always friendly and like to have a good laugh, and there isn’t that clique-y atmosphere that you get at some places. The Karaōke is so much fun, it’s not ultra competitive — just fun if you want to have a good sing song and a right laugh. They have Drag Queens performing all through the week doing cabaret, and you’ll often see some of Brighton and London’s best performers. Definitely a good place to go to before you head to the main club or bar on a Saturday.

I had an awesome night here. The karaōke was not competitive like in NYC. The crowds just wants to have fun and drink there asses off. Little Brighton tip: Kick ass in karaōke your first night in Brighton at The Queens Arms and you’ll have friends all over nightlife while you are there.

Tiny venue, free karaōke, & a fun atmosphere. I went when there was a karaōke competition going on & the host was absolutely fabulous. She was hilarious & entertaining. TV screens next to her had an ad for Tom Daley & she’d make such vulgar comments about Tom that you couldn’t help but laugh. Pretty sure a lot of ladies would like to lick Tom’s abs though. They claimed to have brought in celebrity judges(local celebrities maybe?) for the competition. Not sure what the prize was though. They have these really awesome looking shot glasses that have two little bubbles. My friend liked it so much, she decided to keep one. Get rounds of Tuaca & have fun. Sing your heart out or hang out in the lounge in the back.

I’m a karaōke junkie and have no shame in sounding like a drowned cat. This place encourages just that. The experience here was quite unique. Here’s how it went down… One girlfriend and I walk in. The place is completely empty, short of the bartender and«DJ/Host.» I didn’t catch his name, but he is quite the gay-character. He happened to be watching the premier of Big Brother, and kept making snarky comments about the contestants on the microphone. Even though there was only 4 of us in there, he did not fail to entertain. Eventually, I grew the courage to tell him I wanted to sing Lady Gaga. I sounded worse than I usually do, and gave the fake stage-name of Ginger(which is funny b/c I’m basically the total opposite of that). Still, he encouraged my awful singing, while my friend mocked me and captured it on video for blackmail. It was a Thursday night in early January, and around 11 pm a few drunk lads started straggling in. At this point, the host was singing his own Broadway show tunes from Shrek and Legally Blonde. And the occasional Glee song. He gave me the courage to get up and sing again — this time Radiohead’s creep. Basically, I felt like I was watching a brilliant 1-man show, where I was the comic relief in between. Not your every-day karaōke experience. Still fun. And everything with a British accent is better(says an American).

Not much to look at from the exterior, but the Queens Arms is one of the most legendary gay bars in Brighton. Having heard of the infamous venue before I attended I was surprised at the small size of the venue, but this has never hindered the hoards of queens, drags and fag hags from drinking and dancing the nights away. The venue has karaōke on every time I go, hosted by a man wearing nothing but an apron who isn’t afraid to flash any unsuspecting straight girl. It a really friendly atmosphere due to all the regulars, the only down side is the fact that all the windows are covered so in the height of summer at pride it can be very dingey.

‘For him, for her, for everyone’ is the motto at the Queens Arms which sums the place up perfectly. Its one of Brighton’s best known gay pubs but does attract a mixed crowd so you don’t feel too out of place if you’re straight. The staff are really friendly and welcoming and really do their best to create a relaxed atmosphere. We drink there quite a bit in the daytime as its a lot more chilled out than the evening surge. They have free wi-fi too so its quite handy to pop in for a pint, some lunch and get on-line. In the evening(especially at weekends) it can really take off with its award winning entertainments; Karaōke nights, DJs and hilarious drag acts really bring the crowds in. Well worth checking out.

The Queens Arms is probably the most infamous gay pub in Brighton, I’m not sure why… possibly because its one of Brighton’ longest running gay bars, Situated in Kemp Town(of course) the pub is actually quite a tiny venue and is always heaving at the weekend. It has insanely popular karaōke nights, along with cabaret performances on Sat and Sun afternoons. They do a simple food menu until 3pm including sandwiches and jackets. They have a main bar with the stage etc as well as mini back room with some seating and a very small court yard/small square of space out the back for smokers. Its frequented by drag queens and general out and prouders… and the venue is more than welcoming to men, women, straights, gays and everything inbetween. Its a really good night out and everyone in there is always up for a good time whatever day of the week.
