Not much to say here really… The Marine Tavern is a traditional gay pub in the heart of the gay community in Brighton We visited with friends on a Tuesday, early evening. Only 5 people in and as its so small inside, makes it feel busy lol. You can definitely enjoy a quiet pint in a warm, friendly atmosphere.

Small, friendly and traditionally styled pub, with stained glass windows at the front, lots of wood panelling and low ceilings. The pub is cosy and narrow, and are(very) small seating areas at the front and back, with standing room along the bar in between. They have two hand-pumps but on our visit only had Harvey’s Sussex Best Bitter, although it was a decent enough pint. The punters are mostly gay men, in the 30−50ish age range. The loos are downstairs with no level access, and there’s no dedicated smoking area.

Marine Tavern is a gorgeous little gay bar on Broad street, downstairs from One Broad Street guest house that I recently stayed in. Although it is a gay bar, everybody who’s anybody, including your dog, is welcome with open arms. Despite its small size, it has bags of character in terms of décor and staff. Floor to ceiling wood paneling is complimented by soft lighting and mirrors and the semi-oval bars acts as the hub for the very lively and social clientele and bar tenders. It’s a little Cheers right here in B-town.

Typical bar — great atmosphere, friendly customers and staff. Tucked away just off St James’s almost opposite Boots
