This place was heaving on a Saturday night. It’s a very wide mix of gay men mainly with the occasional woman here and there. Downstairs they were playing music loudly, mainly pop with a few people dancing around. Upstairs was a smaller bar, still rammed with karaōke going on. The place had very little seating on a Saturday night but I’m not sure how it fares at other times. The digital picture frames on the wall show some interesting images to entertain those who don’t have anything to say whilst flat screen TV’s advertise everything that goes on every other night of the week just in case you feel like coming back sometime. It’s not exactly glamorous but most people seemed to be having fun and the atmosphere seemed better than in other gay bars in the area.

I can’t believe no one has added this bar on here before! Great little bar with karaōke upstairs. It’s not pretty and that includes some of the clientele(joke) but the drinks are really cheap and the opening hours are ridiculously long. The music selection is extremely good. Overall a great little place to visit on a Brighton scene night out.

As one is supposed to write as if talking in front of your mother its best if I say nothing about the Bulldog! However it is a Brighton landmark. Good beer. Nice staff. Very male.

The Bulldog has a bit of bad rep for being a dive with locals, although I have to say I was pleasantly surprised when i ventured pasted the blacked out windows. Obviously it’s a predominantly male gay bar and one of the oldest gay venues in the city, but being a straight girl i found it quiet comfortable to sit and enjoy a beverage in the early hours. The massive bonus with the venue are the opening hours which are at least till 4am, but maybe later in the summer.

Dingy, dirty and especially boozy the Bull Dog is an essential stop at some point or many points in your life. The door staff are a bit harsh in picking who is in and who’s not and my female partners-in-booze often have a problem getting past them. This is one bar you can walk out of and see the sun rising whatever time of year, so bring shades for the 7am walk of shame back home. Downstairs they often have DJ’s spinning tracks through the night, which is loooong; its open for a 63 hour stint on the weekend, and on a bank holiday they push it up to a wopping 87 hours with karoake and ‘cash’ karoake upstairs throughout. At the festive times of the year, such as Pride, the Bulldog go all out in decorating the front of the building, watch out for it, it is usually genius.

If you are a gay man on the prowl, then this could be a place for you. If you are not, then it’s a friendly place to hang out and tap your foot to classic Kylie or monotonous Madonna and take advantage of the discounted beer and spirits. Don’t be alarmed if you can feel your feet sticking to the carpet. It’s only booze spillages.

The Bulldog — once of Kemp Town’s most popular gay venues — was a place I’d avoided for a while, what with the uninviting name and the tons of people falling about outside most nights of the week. But once inside, although it’s small, the crowd is really friendly — that’s if you can manage to chat to them above the music volume which gets pretty loud! This place is perhaps not for all, and does attract a mainly male crowd — but if you’re looking for a rowdy night with good drinks deals The Bulldog comes well reccommended.

The Bulldog has a bad rep in Kemp Twon for some reason, I think because it can be quite scary looking as its a pub but you cant see in from the outside and the entrance is always littered with revelers. Its one of the oldests gay venues in brighton, trading for 27 years. The main reason I go to the Bulldog is its late license, its open until 2am seven days a week. On entering the venue it is certaining not scary and the staff/customers were more than welcoming. Its permanently heaving including on Sundays so its great for a drink after everywhere else has closed for the night.

I like it because it is still one of the best gay pubs in Brighton. However you mostly find older lads hanging around, even though it is at the heart of Kemp Town. Definitely a great place during the summer pride.
