Prince Albert

Quite a good venue, well lit and doesn’t really play extremely loud music — I like to hear people I talk to. Nice inside décor, has a very homely feel. Has a very good outside area at the front, which is great for people watching. Just near the station so often many people will dip in for a quick one which is also good for people watching ! The outside venue is cool, graffitied with famous musicians etc. I think a famous artwork of banksey features there too.
It is also a Music venue so you can go and watch a range of gigs upstairs! But it’s mainly Rock or heavy metal music from what I’m aware of. Not really for me!
All in all, not my favourite pub by any means, but a good venue!

My favourite pub in Brighton. Its cosy, music is loud but varied and always well thought off, bar staff are multi tasking legends and all round good people, outside areas at front and back and the back has heaters, food is indulengent and tasty, they have seasonal ales on tap and show all the big sporting events. Cant go wrong.

Superb multi room room just by the railway station. Lots of music very lively but with a really down to earth real pub atmosphere. Plenty of good real ales. Open fires. Lots of wood furniture and music posters. Service really good.

A very nice place to meet friends and have a few drinks just below Brighton station. Lovely selection of beers. I went there to see a punk band called 999. A very small function room a bit like having a band playing in your front room lol good acoustics not too loud my ears are only ringing a little. I’d recommend it nice atmosphere. Haven’t tried the food but I’ve heard good reviews about it. Maybe I’ll try it sometime very impressed ¹⁰⁄₁₀

The Prince Albert is a typical Brighton boozer, a little bit rough around the edges but friendly and welcoming all the same.
I came here during the recent Great Escape Festival to watch a few bands. The upstairs room is fairly small, but is light (a nice change from the numerous basement venues we had attended so far), and the acoustics are fairly good.
There is a bar upstairs selling a range of beverages. My main complaint would be the loos, none of which seemed to have doors that securely close (trying to pee while wedging the door shut with your toes is no easy matter!)
Didn’t try the food on this occasion, but will definitely keep an eye open for bands playing here in the future. They also have outdoor seating so its a good place to catch a few rays when the sun finally starts to shine.

Read all the previous reviews and, truthfully, I can say that they are all true. Great atmosphere and friendly. I tried after an afternoon of shopping just after 1700, and I didn’t get home ’til 1920! Shows how tempting that atmosphere is?

Torn between a 3 and a 4 star here! Compared to a lot of pubs I frequent in London, it’s amazing. But compared to other pubs in Brighton it’s a bit… busy and maybe a little touristy.
None the less I’ve met numerous friends here before gigs and nights out and it’s somewhere I seem to end up a lot so for that it deserves a 3 at least. My boyfriend’s been to good gigs here, upstairs, and the drinks are pretty reasonable. But they don’t serve Strongbow which I think sucks.
Come and look at the Banksy on the outside wall if you’re into that!

Es war kalt in Brighton, der Wind wehte unangenehm durch die Straßen und wir fröstelten. Durch das Fenster sahen wir im Pub einen brennenden Kamin nichts wie rein. Es war wunderbar gemütlich vor dem Kamin. Schnell hatten wir ein Bier auf dem Tisch und studierten die Karte. Fish and chips war jetzt genau das Richtige. Das Essen kam schnell und hat auch geschmeckt, ich weiß gar nicht, was die Leute immer gegen Fish and chips haben.

The Albert is a place I have been coming to for about the last 20 years. Over that time it’s lost none of it’s charm or appeal. They have a very nice range of drinks at the bar and these days they seem to have a pretty respectable food menu. I would certainly think about giving them a try for a pub meal.
What I really like about the place is that there are so many facets to this place. Whether it’s the front bar, the back side of the bar, a drinking room that is more reminiscent of a living room, the nice garden area or the event room upstairs, this is the kind of venue that keeps on giving and works for so many occasions.
They have regular live music and events upstairs and the place really has a good, lively atmosphere. he staff are also a good bunch and make you feel welcome. This really is one of the best venues in Brighton for a good night out and I cannot recommend it enough!

This rock pub is great, and even a tourist attraction with the original banksy (policemen kissing) on the side of the building.
Located very close to the train station you’ll find many a commuter in there on a Friday just after 5. The majority of the time you’ll find Brightons alternative scene here often flocking to watch the wide varity of bands they put on in the upstairs bar.
Although it can quite often get cramped theres good reason as theres always a good atmosphere.
With two meus, meat and vegitarian theres always a good choice of food which often arrives speedily.
In my opinion, one of Brightons best pubs!

This is a raucous pub with a brilliant layout, brilliant staff and brilliant punters. It’s a great music pub and it knows what its city’s inhabitants of bright eyed libertarians are into. The layout and feel of the place gives it a very sociable feel, and you will often end up talking to a stranger either by the bar or outside the front, making it a great place for Brighton newcomers. Could perhaps do with some graffiti outside, the Banksy aesthetic gets a bit tired after a while even if we do still want similar things, but the bands and downstairs DJ’s are still new and vibrant.

It’s not exactly hidden away, being right near the train station. But The Prince Albert is a diversion enough for the straight-​off-​the-​train stag parties to miss, and as they swagger off to West Street, insulting OAPs as they go, the real Brighton starts, tucked neatly underneath the bridge. Close enough to pick up station traffic, this pub, with it’s great John Peel mural adorning its wall, is a well-​established music haunt. A lively bunch of Brighton types frequent the Albert, and there’s often a healthy pack of rockabillies and mods knocking about. The music is upstairs, with some great local and touring acts on their CV. Jammed during weekend trade, there’s plenty of outdoor benches out front, and a nice yard out back if you can bag a table.

First off, I have to say that if you’re the kind of person that likes a quiet drink then The Albert is not the place for you. I rarely come in here unless it’s to see a mate’s band play as it’s a great, intimate venue for live music. The clientele (and the bands) are well into their rock/​indie/​alternative stuff, and this is definitely first and foremost a ‘music pub’. There’s always a real buzz about the place when it’s packed, as it seems to attract really friendly people, who stand around in between the tables so everyone’s different groups merge into one.
The layout of the place is really unique there’s your main room as you go in the front door, then three further rooms towards the back that are usually a little bit quieter. If you’re going here for a bite to eat, I would try and grab one of the back room tables they’re more cosy and relaxed than the main bar. The food is dead cheap too I had a salmon fillet with jacket potato and seasonal veg for £5.50. True, the salmon was a little dry and overdone, but the veg was cooked really nicely. And for that price, I didn’t really feel justified in complaining. My friend was also rather impressed with her blue cheese burger (I pinched a few of her chips dipped in this lovely oniony-​mustardy relish, in the spirit of being a good reviewer, and they were really tasty and chunky). The bar staff are great too — smiling, helpful and welcoming.
Upstairs the music venue is very small, but I love that. It means every gig is really intimate, with the audience composed almost entirely of friends of the bands, so everyone is friendly, happy and having a great time. If you live in Brighton, chances are you know someone in a band. Next time they play here, I’d definitely recommend going along.

This is definitely one of my favourite pubs in Brighton. It always has a great atmosphere with a real mix of people. Most of the crowds you find in there are music lovers as the place consists of a great live venue upstairs. I’ve seen some really good established bands there as well as some up-​and-​coming musicians. I also really like the décor as they have kept a proper pub feel going on unlike some of the flashy bars appearing everywhere. I feel really at home when visiting The Albert and have had many good nights in this place. Couldn’t recommend it enough.

Located just down from Brighton Station on Trafalgar Street, this pub is often busy on Friday nights and throughout this the weekend. For such a central location the drinks prices are surprisingly cheap and there a few choice ciders to be sampled. There are some really intresting original musical signed artwork along the walls, and after a recent visit to India by the owner there are quite few reflections around ther place. Holding host to regular live music music nights The Albert sometimes attracts some notable names. Oh and check out the ‘kissing policemen’ original Banksy on the outside wall.

This is one of my favourite pubs in Brighton.
Entering, you might think you’d found a very small and busy pub, with only a few tables. Explore futher though, and you find smaller rooms, the size of a small living room with a few sofas and tables. It does really feel in these parts of the pub as if you are in someone’s house.
Upstairs, there is a large function room, which also provides extra seating on busy nights. It’s often used for band nights and big screen football.
The place is stuffed full of interesting nooks and crannies and things to look at, without being too self-​consciously cool. The toilet graffiti is also a constant source of amusement.

The Prince Albert is alright, but I wouldn’t go much further than that. It’s not a bad pub, and the Muso memoribilia is undoubtedly cool, but I feel as though it’s a little too cool for school, and therefore it’s not that cool if you know what I mean. I dunno, I just feel like the atmosphere in this place is a little missing really. Perhaps this could be because it’s become such an iconic place due to the Banksy on the side, that too many interlopers have packed it, without allowing a more real, local spirit to become entrenched?
The Banksy on the side wall, which can be seen in his book ‘Wall and piece’ must have skyrocketed the price of the property, and the amount of clientele visiting it, and it’s definitely worth a look if that’s your bag. However there’s better pubs and better graffiti to go and see.

The Albert is a must for any muso Brightonian. Its an absolutely perfect music pub with a very varied clientele. At one time or another I have been overrun with 50s jivers, hairy bikers and old school punks, while drinking in the downstairs bar. The crowd can depend on the band upstairs and the DJ downstairs but its a regular haunt for local indie kids and student types.
Brightly coloured graffiti covers the walls of the outside section, there’s even an original Banksy on the exterior wall, (the one with the two policeman kissing).
Live music is played up stairs which is small but has its own bar and has played host to many many legends such as the White Stripes and the late great John Peel. Always worth a goose if your into your live music as they have something on most nights of the week. At the bar recently the guy in front of me said to the bar maid, ‘Hi I’m Mark and we’ve come from America to play rock’ ‘n’ roll music’, which i think somes up the vibe nicely.

If you like live music then make sure you check the listings for this venue !
It’s one of the strangest — yet one of the best — pubs you will ever go into ! Venue is set out over several separate rooms — you can’t help feeling that you have actually stumbled into a wild party in somone’s house when you are there (albeit one where you have to buy your own drinks).
Pub has a room with a stage and holds regular music nights where live bands perform. Many of the bands are local Brightonians. It’s a great place to hear new music from up and coming artists.
Be warned though — music can get pretty loud so don’t expect a cosy night if you go as a couple !
Pub is just a stones throw from Brighton Station meaning it’s really handy to get a train home (or for me it is anyway !)

This pub is great for seeing bands. I saw World Inferno here and a few other bands and it’s always been fun. Booze is kind of cheap too and nice bar staff

Great pub. They are meant to have live music, but apparently the one night I went in they were re-​doing their stage. Typical! Never mind. The staff were friendly and I had a couple of beers at the bar.
I also got talking to some magician who’s name escapes me. He’s on the telly a lot and was cool. We gossiped and he bought me a few beers. Lots of fun.
The pub is tucked away under the train station, and if you do find it you’ll meet friendly locals and happy people. It doesn’t seem like anything special, but I really liked it. It’s simple. And that’s a good thing.
