My friend and I went here for a drink after we got off the train from Brighton Station. I have never been here before and was surprised there was a couple of pubs along the street I never knew existed. Mind you, it was a weekend and mid Brighton Fringe. It was absolutely packed! I couldn’t have a real feel of what it’s like indoors as it was so busy and there were no seats available. We’re smokers anyway so when we got our drinks from the bar, we went straight out at the patio garden at the back. It wasn’t too bad apart from having a partial view of next door which was obviously residential. I’m not sure what the fuss was about that weekend. The pub was probably holding the maximum amount of people it can have in one go indoors.

Very nice local pub with a ‘hidden’ beer garden at the rear. Situated on the steeply sloping Guildford Street, it’s actually very close to Brighton railway station. The interior comprises an ‘L’-shaped bar, and is traditional, with lots of wood, dark green painted walls and cigar-brown ceilings. As well as lots of naval pictures there are lots of posters for live bands all over Brighton. They serve up to 4 real ales, well kept and well served. One ale we ordered was from a new barrel, and still a little bit cloudy and very ‘bright’. The very helpful barmaid offered to pull another pint if it wasn’t up to scratch. This is so much better than your average run of the mill experience it gets 5 stars for that alone. They serve food at lunchtimes and evenings, and Saturday and Sunday lunchtime and early afternoon. I’ve not eaten there yet, but I will at some point. The clientele seem to come from a very wide mix of Brighton types, from students to middle-aged, straight, gay, etc.

Located just away from Brighton railway station is the ‘local’ pub which definitely gives the impresson that it’s for ‘local’ people. When you step inside you can’t help but feel like everybody in the room notices you, not because you’re particularly interesting, more because the ‘Trafalgar’ is really quite small. It gets extremely busy here with little difficulty, due to the size mainly. However, in such an event, and providing it isn’t raining, there is a rather nice terraced garden outside. While the inside of the pub isn’t particularly amazing, the garden is definitely an improvement.

This is one of my local boozers and it really is a warm, comfortable place to hang out. They serve a really good pint of Harveys and a good selection of
