The Lucky Star has a bit of a budget look from the outside, but don’t let that deceive you. Now, you won’t walk into the culinary experience to overshadow any future eating event, but for the price you get a decent buffet selection. In honesty, I wouldn’t think about bringing a date here for a romantic evening meal, but for a lunchtime bite you will certainly not need to go snack before dinner. There is a respectable selection of dishes to choose from and the food is above the £5 you will pay for a lunchtime sitting. I really like the staff also and they certainly make you feel welcome. Certainly not one of the top 5 eateries in the city, but it should at least stay in contention for your lunchtime custom.

A fairly average Chinese buffet on Trafalgar Street. I’d probably favour Buffet Island, around the corner, over this place, but it’s certainly not bad, and I’d definitley rather patronise an independent place like this than somewhere like Wokmania. Food is around the quality you’d expect, mid range takeaway.

For a Chinese buffet place, Lucky Star is much better than it looks from the outside. Cheaper than most, the quality of the food is better than it should be, and it seems to have a regular Chinese clientele: normally a sign of a Chinese restaurant’s quality. Despite these, it is still a cheap buffet place: don’t expect the world! As buffet places go, Lucky Star does things a little differently: at lunchtime, there’s a meager buffet, but in the evening, the buffet is the menu: order anything off it and they’ll bring it. I guess this is more all-you-can-eat than buffet, but it still works well on an empty stomach. As I say above, the food is not splendid, but it’s fine and STILL value for money. The service is almost non-existent, and anything that isn’t beer is probably a bad idea to drink, but if you fancy loads of greasy Chinese, this is a very good option.
