The key to understanding Cologne & Cotton is L*U*X*U*R*Y. If you have the money — you can sleep on luxurious cotton sheets, wrap yourself in a sophisticated blanket from Provence, bask in the smell of lavendar water, take a warm bath in seductive bath oils, scrub yourself with heavenly soap, make breakfast in the comfiest bath robe known to man and spray yourself with a truly delectable perfume from Molinard, Diptyque or Annick Guvtal. The only thing Cologne & Cotton can’t provide is someone to feed you chocolates, pour you champagne and scrub your back. Sigh. If you have the money however, I’m sure there’s a concierge service that can!

Prepare to be blinded by the cleanliness and whiteness that is Cologne and Cotton. This shop is for people who want their bathrooms to always feel like a very nice hotels, and of course people that are obsessed with white towels, ‘Ah, there is a stain on this one, burn it!’ etc. I am not sure if businesses like these can last out through the downturn in retail, but perhaps Ill be proved wrong, good quality sheets are lovely, and they sheets from Cologne and Cotton are high quality and built to last. The feel is very scented, sleek, minimal and expensive.

Cologne and Cotton may well be the most well named business I have ever been to. They sell fragrances, and soft bed sheets and little else. Sadly, as is the case with a lot of shops these days, they are clearly struggling for business, with the staff perking up as I entered and smiling pleasantly, which is always a sign that you’re the first customer for quite some time… Its very much orientated towards the female shopper here, with lavish pinks and flowing white sheets to spread across your bed and soft bath smells to relax and unwind with. If I had any idea what kinds of perfume interested my Mum, I would definitely be sorting out Mothers day(and possibly Christmas) with this place, but sadly I don’t… Still, I’ll take her round here when next she visits, and I’m sure she’ll be more interested in the wares than I was.

Beautiful beautiful things. Expensive to boot, but they sometimes do 15% off promotions. Watch the website for info. This place is in direct competition with the White Company across the road but I reckon it wins out in price and style(and colour options). The bed linen comes in very understated but gorgeous patterns. They are all of a high thread count and look great teamed with oxford style pillowcases. The linen, throws and blankets make the perfect dressing for their feature bed in-store. These beds are one-offs, usually antique french in style but they only have one at a time. The perfumes are really lovely brands like creed which are pretty exclusive. The only other place in Brighton where I’ve seen a range as nice as this is Simultane which unfortunately closed down. Also stocks really high-end brands of candles and room diffusers. Especially worth a visit at christmas time as the decorations are enough to make a girl swoon.

I can’t write using the phonetic alphabet unfortunately, but to give you an idea, everytime I talk/think about this place I’m urged to say ‘Colooogne and Cotton’ in the most Queen-ey(not the best analogy in Brighton, but I mean Elizabeth) way possible. I’m probably just a grubby barely-left-uni can’t-get-a-proper-job young’un, but this shop feels ever so posh and dainty to me. You’ll find lovely gift for grandma if you have the budget, such as lavender water and pretty bed linen. In fact, I would love to visit a grandma who had her house kitted out in all this stuff, as it is lovely. I don’t know if it’s the credit crunch or the fact that you can get more unique in the lanes/cheaper in Churchill Square but this shop is always dead when I walk past. I went in once as they had a sale and I’d just moved into a new flat, but at £11 for a mere pillowcase, it was still a bit dear for me. Loads of adorable baby quilts and duvets too — another one for the yummy mummies methinks.

Posh bedroom, bathroom and kitchen shop that sell a lot of different towelsyes, towels. They also sells cologne would you believe? It does exactly what it says on the tin. Staff are attentive and helpful but it’s not much to get excited about really!
