The Crown & Cushion sounds like it’d be a grand, majestic pub, but unfortunately, it’s far from that. Inside, I was greeted by a dark, gloomy, almost ‘dungeon’-like visage, which I had to brave through without bumping into any tables. After my eyes had climatised to the darkness, I could finally make out the punters who were glaring at my unwanted presence(probably due to the fact that I wasn’t a local.) Feeling a little uneasy, I explored the pub anyway to see if I could find somewhere to sit. There are a limited number of tables and chairs in this pub, and with the unfriendly few customers that were occupying the seating, I didn’t really feel comfortable(or daring) enough to join them at one of their tables. Instead, I decided to go towards to bar to look at the selection of alcohol. Still feeling a little on edge, I decided against buying a drink and swiftly left instead. I’d only really return if the pub had a refurbishment, and if the punters become a bit more welcoming…

This pub is a great local neighbourhood pub were time after time you get to meet your regualr and irregular mates. It has a nice old fashioned feel to the place not to trandy and not too modern, more of an old fashioned public house were you can feel relaxed and chilled out, it is certainly not pretentious.

This pub is on the round-a-bout in Perry Barr near Birmingham City University but its no uni type of pub. There are no hipsters lurking about anywhere and really its a bit of a middle-aged crowd but the local feel of the Crown and Cushion is what makes it. Saturday nights there is usually a DJ but I prefer it on weekdays. Its a good place to go to hang out with the neighborhood. Not enough women though!!!
