Big fan of this wine bar/bistro and I’ve been here a couple of times now. It’s upstairs in an old building, so it’s a charming and authentic feeling bistro, with old fireplaces and plenty of bottles everywhere. It sits on top of a wine/whisky etc shop, and you can drink any of the wines from downstairs with a corkage charge. The wine menu itself is fairly large but not vastly extensive– prices are quite reasonable starting from around £18 for a bottle. In addition, there is a very good whisky selection, plus a gin list with several gins I’m not familiar with. I would also highly recommend trying one of the grappas– there’s no paint stripper here! We had a sharing plate of charcuterie(with a wine to match) plus some bread and olives, which was plenty to keep us going through the evening. It’s really a nice, intimate place, with some knowledgeable staff. Keep an eye out for their events schedule too, as they frequently do wine/whisky tastings and the like.

Came here for respite and refuelling after a day at the Christmas market. The staff were very friendly and rushed to find us seats and clear a table for the 5 of us. We had a lovely bottle of local(Bath) sparking wine and a selection of cheeses, crackers and olives. After an hour we were ready to continue battling the crowds after a stop off in the shop and deli. If you’re looking for an unusual tipple, such as Japanese whisky, it’s an Aladdins cave. A great little spot of calm and utterly different from the bar and coffee chains.

I had booked a «wine and dine» experience for my team. Overall, we felt that the«wine» part of the evening did not match our expectations. We expected more of an in-depth explanation(I specifically mentioned we were interested in a short overview of the wines we were drinking) around the wine selection, and not just some very, very high level/generic comments(my colleague from France was especially disappointed). Whilst we did not expect a lecture, we expected a much more elaborate overview. Also, whilst it is understood red wine should be served at room temperature, we do not expect it to be warm/lukewarm. The red wine was decent, but warm. Also no explanation of any kind was provided regarding the dessert wine. The«dine» part was«ok», but not 5 star either. Very average.
