Taking a tour of a distillery, brewery, etc. is always a good time in my book. And the Dewar’s World Whisky tour at Aberfeldy is no exception, especially when it ends with a taste of a 26 year old spirit straight from the cask. This is a smooth operation. Show up with your group, purchase your ticket and you’re on your way to learn about the Dewar’s brand and the historic Aberfeldy distillery(owned by Dewar’s which is owned by Bacardi). Our tour guide was polite and a tad soft-spoken, but still completely knowledgeable about all things whisky-making. After 15 minutes or so in current distillery, you head over to the 100-year-old historic distillery, full of casks and a tasting room. It’s here you learn how Dewar’s cuts its blends with plenty of grain alcohol(don’t they all?) and adds in caramel coloring for consistency in the look of its blends. It’s really interesting if you care how your favorite spirit is made. And just before you head back to the bar/café/gift shop, you get a dram of 1988 Aberfeldy straight from the cask. Definitely everyone’s favorite part of the tour. Glen Cairn glass included — nice!

I will say I’m not a big whiskey person, nor did I know anything about Dewars it happen to be one of the few distilleries on our route. We both couldn’t be happier that we stopped by! We did the tour a step up from the basic one so we could have a souvenir glass to take home & get to do some tasting straight from the barrel. Love the self guided tour and enjoyed the behind the scenes tour even more. Our tour guide was wonderful. After doing our tastings, we enjoyed some of the food there on site. Omg, it was so tasty! The owner was there and chatted with us for a bit. Love the history and the customer service here. We don’t have another distillery to compare this to but it was one of our favorite stops on our Scotland trip. :)
