Found my new favourite place for Japanese curry place already! While most of the restaurants that serve Japanese curry out there have this really mild curry, which I personally always wished that it’s just a little bit spicier. Wish is granted here — they have their curry’s spiciness level ranged from 1 – 10. I picked level 7, the next visit I will try level 8 out! While this place is well known for Japanese curry rice, they also have a lot of other choices in their menu. But, just for Japanese curry itself, they already have a lot of choices for you to choose from, and not just chicken, but also beef and fish. And whether you want it katsu style, or else the other ways that they are preparing it. Of course, apart from choosing the spiciness level that you want, you get to pick if you would like any add-ons too, like cheese, hmm! To go with my meal, I ordered their fancy blue mountain blend. The person who made my coffee — I’m assuming the owner(oh did I mention, this place is run by Japanese, and I guess that’s why the whole place just feel so authentic) — prepared my coffee using the vacuum coffee maker, which definitely look very professional. With their counter-full of coffee making equipments, I definitely felt that my cup of blue mountain was well worth the price. Oh, did I forget to say — I got my coffee for free! Yep, they are having their free drink promotion now, while you just have to snap a photo of the meal you ordered on your Facebook or Instagram with their specified hashtag, and your drink is free. And, you are entitled to order any drink on their menu! I definitely will return to try out more things on the menu. The only thing that will concern me would be — please come here early during peak hours! We were slightly earlier here than the others, and just minutes after the whole restaurant was full house, and some even decided to leave as they were told that they have to wait for quite a while.

It says that they are open at 10am on weekends but the correct time is actually 11am. At the time of this posting, they have yet to update their site to reflect the correct weekend opening time. I really enjoyed their Croquette Curry Rice and I’ve heard that the Chicken Katsu curry rice is good too(though some may not enjoy it as it isn’t boneless). For their curry rice dishes, you can choose the level of spiciness. The owner recommends that you choose a level 3 if you don’t like your food too spicy, however, if you are a true Malaysian, try level 10. I can only take level 7. #Fail Try their blue mountain coffee(RM29.90), it is aromatic and strong. There is also a nice balance of acidic and bitterness to its taste. On weekends, they offer a breakfast set to go with any coffee where you get free toast and scrambled eggs. Staff service is friendly. Décor is very simple. I heard that they are pretty famous and have been featured in magazines in Japan as well.

What’s great about my apartment is that I have one the best cafes in Subang. Haikara Style is at the ground level of E-Tiara Service apartment ss16. It’s so wonderful to be able to smell fresh coffee in the morning at the lobby area. Haikara Style café have been around for about 8 years owned by a Japanese and a Filipino owner together with their daughter, and still going strong. The best thing about their café is the coffee, food and their pastries. Most of their meals and pastries are home made and coffees are imported from Jamaica and other places as well. My selection of coffee is the sumiyaki coffee, which is their blue mountain coffee. Seriously once you’ve tried it, it’s addictive. You can add with whip cream or milk, so far I’ve only taken it black. For their food they have some of the usual japanese meals like curry katsu don, some western meals and their newly addition of burgers. Oh, their teriyaki burger with scrambled eggs is awesome, try that! It is no surprise as to why many still come to this place, I love the coffee here. It is a great joy to have a café like this at where you live.

I was introduced to the Japanese siphon style coffee during my student exchange year in Japan. When I came back to Malaysia, the craving for it was always unsettling, like life was missing an aroma. These days, my craving for it is satiated in Haikara, with a wide array of single origin beans professionally prepared by a master roaster before arriving in Haikara’s doorstep and to your table. The usual coffee selection including the charcoal roast coffee is all under RM12.00, while the Premium Roast selections are all under RM15.00. It gets better, as there is also spoiled for choice home made buns, bread, toasts and desserts. My personal favourite is the cinnamon toast with ice cream, a simple combination that delights the taste buds like Jerry finding cheese. I have tried the Rokomoko with Cheese Omelette(RM21.90), a hamburger patty with chewy cheese omelette served with jealously picked fresh salads, and it tastes just like how my talented Japanese host mother cooked it. The Teppan Beef Stew Special(RM22.90) has thick chewy cutlets, the stew is delicious and the bright carrots crunchy. The curry rice selection has that traditional sweet spicy flavor, the gravy thickness is more like stew and you can even select the curry spicy level! Definitely a must try for Japanese /Japanese-fusion cuisine lovers!

Haikara was the first Japanese cafè I stepped into. It is very simply decorated with comfortable straight back chairs and solid wooden dining tables. Owned and run by a Japanese couple, Haikara maintains the Japanese culture with its Japanese desserts, coffee and decors. I had their Cordon Bleu Chicken which was the chicken meat was somewhat too dry. The cinnamon toast was good however. The thick crust of the toast complements the soft bread in the centre which was covered with sweet cinnamon powder, served with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. Also, their Japanese style green tea Swiss roll was not too bad. I did not particularly favour the strong taste of matcha powder, but I liked the soft texture of the Swiss roll. The pricing at Haikara is affordable for a café, about RM20 per pax.

Japanese pastry and bakery is one of the in the world. Highly remarkable and well recognized by any people on the globe. Hence, Malaysians are also included because Haikara Style Café & Bakery is serving a home-cooked style Japanese café and bakery in Subang Jaya. This place is operated by Japanese couple from the city of Nagoya. Just like the Japanese cultures which popular of their discipline and organized, we could see the same elements that put into effort of making their drinks and pastries. So neat, beautiful and also delicious. As for the big eaters, you don’t have to worry as they also provide heavy meals such as the vaeious types of pasta dishes, breakfast platters, steaks and etc. Have you taste the Hokkaido Cheesecake? Yup, every store are selling that kind of cake but there’s much much better one than the one that made by the Japanese itself.
