Kheng’s Kopitiam

Saturday morning, 9 AM. After a quick jog around the nearby park, I’m more than ready for breakfast. This earth-​toned, dependable looking café is almost full, as usual. I like the fact that it’s clearly popular, but not packed to bursting, and I’m expecting some great food without having to queue a million years. My stomach is rumbling in anticipation by now.
I was not disappointed at all! The curry chicken served here is superb. Perfectly balanced between richness and spiciness, it’s addictive as anything. I’m given two slices of bread, sliced diagonally into triangles, and I am savouring every curry soaked bite, desperately trying to prolong my time in curry heaven. I’ve always thought «foodgasm» was a silly hyperbole, but I totally had a foodgasm that day. They could have given me a whole bowl of that curry, no chicken, and I wouldn’t have minded.
I’m doubly amazed when I find that the last of the curry is soaked up perfectly by the last piece of bread. Perfect balance in taste AND quantity? I’m blubbering inside like I’ve seen a #doublerainbow.
This is comfort food at it’s best. Corny as it sounds, I am truly comforted with the knowledge that I have experienced a perfect moment in my life. Thank you, Kheng. I’ll be back.
