This place has to be king of steamboats and bbq in my opinion. Going with the buffet concept, you can eat all you want with no time frame with the joy of being with your loved ones. It can be hard to find if you’re not familiar with the Sri Kembangan area, or if you’re like me, terrible with directions then Waze is your best friend. Expect a huge crowd if you’re planning to go on a weekend night which can mean two things, HOT and NOISY. The staffs are very efficient and attentive; a tablecloth is laid out almost immediately as you walk into the restaurant and everything is set up. Cutleries, plates, glasses, tissues, and a pot of tea of choice. You are required to pay up first before dining in, might be a little strange if you’re used to the normal procedure. There are almost 50 kinds of steamboat or barbeque items to pick from. Vegetables to meat of all kind. my favorite is the pork meat that is already marinated waiting to be picked up and cooked to perfection. The marinate sauce is really good, right balance of sweet and sour. You are also provided with scoops of butter to make sure that the meat doesn’t stick on your barbeque grill. Everything is at its finest quality, so go over and have a good time mingling over good food! It’s doing a good job since I’ve been coming back almost every year for my steamboat fix.

As a student in Serdang, Hoi Tong was among the most famous places to go when we wanted to celebrate something in a big group. Hoi Tong is an outdoor steamboat bbq buffet place that charges only RM35.00 per adult and its an eat all you can establishment. The open air dining setup makes the air fresher since you don’t have to be stuck in a smoky building and get you eyes all watery. Until today, the hubby and I always visit Hoi Tong when we want to celebrate small but happy occasions in our lives. My hubby who is a vegetarian benefits so much from their wide selection of fresh greens, mushrooms, tofus, fucuk and other other vegetables. I on the other hand like to grill their marinated meats. I particularly like their curried fish eggs and various species of fish meats, like sting ray. All the grilling is done in Hoi Tong’s signature balls of margerine and little squares of palm leaf that can be placed on the grill to protect the grill as well as to lend a slight flavour to whatever is being grilled. I particlularly like the fact that Hoi Tong provides a full bar of desserts including fresh fruits, jellies, ice cream and fruit sherbert.

At Rm35 per pax, you get unlimited supply of seafood(prawn, crab, clam, abalone and many more), meat, vegetable, noodles, refillable drink and many more. I reckon this is by far one of the best steamboat. Running for almost /at least 10 years, it still enjoys the popularity among the customers. Although the environment is not air-conditioned, high ceiling makes the air ventilation well and you don’t really sweat although sitting in front of the sizzling hot pot. Oh yea, did I say ‘sizzling’? Yes, Hoi Tong provides both BBQ and steamboat at the same pot(no surcharge). You can choose either chicken or tomyam as soup base or even both. The pot might look a bit small with both soup base together. However, it is still fairly sufficient. Some marinated meats are overly seasoned. E.g., the lamb is overly seasoned with black pepper. You don’t really get to taste the juicy lamb apart from black pepper. However, fret not, they have more than 10 types of marinated ingredients, all kind of meats are available. No worries. Food is fresh, in general. Wide range of selection and spacious environment. Well recommended.
