So it’s a weekday, the place has ample space not too many customers, yet we still couldn’t get anyone to come over to take our order, heck nobody even acknowledged that we exist. We must have had our Harry Potter invisibility capes on. There were no choices. Barely a handful of dim sum dishes, the radish cake was cold, and the loh mai kai was only okay. Ran out of chee cheong fun too. Place is dirty, lots of soggy tissues and cigarette buds everywhere and the staff here seemed deeply unhappy to be here. There are much better dim sum places around.

Key Hiong is good dim sum as far as good dim sum goes, and is quite popular with in the local community. Sometimes early birds from the other side of KL will flock over too, and you can always find the pre-church crowd having breakfast before Sunday service starts. The standard checklist for any popular dim sum joint applies: go early to ensure good parking space, go early to get seats, go early before the food runs out. Unfortunately for me, I was running late that breakfast day so by 10.30am I was making circles for almost 10 minutes at the commercial area looking for parking, only to find that most of the famous dim sums had already sold off. My friends and I had some of the usual must haves: Prawn Siu Mai, which is famous here and good. Fish ball, quite fresh. Fishcake Stuffed Eggplant, my favorite here. Fried Yam Ball and Fried Raddish Cake, not the best I’ve had as I think the dim sum places in Cheras does it better. Something new that we tried was the Bacon Wrapped Pork Balls, which was surprisingly delicious despite the pale colors. The bacon was quite juicy which gave extra flavor to the pork ball. Yums. I also shared a medium bowl of porridge with a friend, it tastes quite good but perhaps an incomplete flavor as the century egg is missing. Luckily they still had Tau Sar Pau, my all time must have. Such richly sweet– smooth filling and always a generous portion. The bun itself is fluffy, you can tell it’s always super fresh as the outer skin is easily peeled off. I would have ordered another one, at least, I should have. Now I am writing this with a little regret, haha. All in all, always a good breakfast choice on a weekend if you plan to meet up with friends or spend quality time with family. Just remember to wake up early.

Kee Hiong serves the traditional Chinese dim sum in affordable price while taste quite good. I went with my friends for breakfast this morning, a meal for 1 guy and 3 ladies, total cost about RM70 only. They serve a various of dim sum. We ordered the ‘siu Mai” which and«Loh Mai gai», both taste quite good as well. If you are looking for a cheap and not bad dim sum restaurant, Kee Hiong can be considered as one of the good choice. Environment: 2⁄5(it’s like normal kopitiam) Service: 3⁄5 Food: 3⁄5

Despite their popularity, their dim sum isn’t all that great. I looks okay, but lack real taste to it. I bet their dim sum are no longer made fresh but uses packed minced meat to make it and the result is disappointing. Their fried items like the sesame dumpling«jin dui» is good, however the main dishes of dim sum like«sui mai» taste like over seasoned minced meat topped with yellow colour fake caviar. As the main ingredients for dim sum is the minced meat, it does ruin the quality of their overall dishes. A sad place to have dim sum.
