As Fa-Ying is under the famous Rama V in KL, I had high expectations for this restaurant. Though they do mostly outdoor seating, there are ample fans placed around the tables so it wasn’t too hot. Fa-Ying offers attractive set menus which makes it easy to order and choose. Do look out for their other promotions on drinks such as free cocktails on ladies nights. I ordered the Set B which came with 5 dishes including jasmine white rice, drinks and dessert. The drinks which came with the set was supposed to be originally pandan leaf but they replaced it with a funny rose syrup drink which I did not fancy. Our other vegetable dish in the set was also replace with kangkung when it was supposed to be assorted vegetables. This was disappointing as I felt that we were being conned by the restaurant. A must-have dish here is the red duck curry as its packed with flavours and the duck meat goes well with the curry. The food here doesn’t feel very authentic as it’s more of a fusion restaurant. No pork is served here though they have a selection of alcohol.

I’ve been here quite a few times already as their food is pretty good and worth it. Not to mention a chilled ambience perfect for relaxing with a cocktail. They have quite the selection of cocktails and different promotions for the different day of the week. We ordered their all day Thai set B and a few additional dishes. The set consists of deep fried shrimp cakes, somtam salad with soft shell crab, sizzling chicken with black pepper sauce, stir fried assorted vegetables with garlic, spicy sweet and sour dory fish soup, and sago with ice cream. Their set also comes with jasmine rice as well as free flow of their beverage of the day. Somehow, their assorted vegetables came out as only kangkung which we only realized after eating halfway. However the other food was really good so we didn’t bother making much of a fuss. An extra dish we ordered is the duck red curry. It’s basically roasted duck that is sliced and then added into thick red curry, something I’ve never had anywhere else. The meat is tender and tasty making me want more than there is. A bowl only had about 5 slices of duck meat.

My friend and I tried their everyday sets for 2 pax, at RM49.90 where we were served appetizer, main course which was dishes and rice, dessert and also free flow of pandan juice! I thought that our food was quite nice, not exactly the most authentic but close enough I suppose. I liked the green curry because it was thick and fragrant. The Tom Yum soup was spicy and sour enough too! I thought for the price we paid, it was worth it and we were very satisfied! The set up is cosy and it suits the setting and idea of the place. Service was quite good too, we were actually drawn in by a host that was standing outside while we just randomly stopped by to flip through the menu. He was really friendly and was successful with his persuasion as we decided to have our dinner there. They seem to be famous for their Pandan Chicken but it wasn’t included in our set.

Food: 4⁄5 Décor: 3⁄5 Service: 3⁄5 I had one of my company team dinner at Rama V and I liked the food there. So, when my girlfriend and I were in Paradigm mall, we took the opportunity to try out Fa Ying, which is a has a modern spin-off as compared to Rama V which serves tradtional Thai food. I have a love-hate feeling towards the cod fish served with manow sauce and broccotini. For some moments, it tasted really good, but the rest of the time, the spiciness really kicked in and it was not easy to deal with. My girlfriend and I both love the Pandan Chicken. We highly recommend anyone who visits Fa Ying to not miss that dish. It was a pleasant dinner with really good food. We over ordered as the portion were more generous than we expected. However, I do not recommend their satays. The seafood and lamb satay that we ordered weren’t exactly what we’ve expected. The lamb satay was too tough and dry.

Food: 4⁄5 Décor: 4⁄5 Service: 3⁄5 It was my first time at Paradigm Mall. I was doing some last minutes shopping for Valentine’s Day there while my boyfriend met up with a business partner for a chat. After we were done, we decided to have dinner in Paradigm Mall before heading back. My boyfriend recommended this restaurant — Fa Ying by Rama V. It serves a more fusion type of Thai food as compared to Rama V. I agreed to the suggestion as it has been awhile since we last had Thai food. We wanted to be seated indoors but we were told that it was booked for a function. So, we had no choice but to take the seats outside. It wasn’t too hot and they have fans around. The ambience was quite nice and a little romantic even. Halfway through the meal, the nice ambience was interrupted by the lion dance performance in front of the mall entrance, where we had to shout to talk to each other. I loved the Pad Thai and pandan chicken. I would definitely return even if it was just that 2 dishes. I can’t decide if the Pad Thai was authentic, but it tasted really good. As for the Pandan Chicken, the boneless chicken was wrapped in pandan leaves, shaped like a ketupat. It had a sweet taste and the dip was really delicious too. Definitely try it with and without the dip! I was rather disappointed with the satays though. We had seafood and lamb satay. I absolutely dislike the lamb satay but then I am not a big fan of lamb to begin with.
